"From here on, the two of us will continue the mission!"
The breeze swept through the woods. Obito stared at Kakashi, standing before him, his face full of disbelief.
"What about Rin? What are we supposed to do about her?" Obito asked in a low voice. At that moment, he had actually calmed down, but his eyes still burned with fury.
"We'll go rescue her later."
"If the enemy wants to learn about our mission, they won't kill her right away."
"Besides, Rin's a medical ninja. As long as she agrees to treat the Stone Ninja, they definitely won't take her life."
"The more serious problem is that our intel might be exposed. If that happens, security at Kannabi Bridge will be even tighter than it is now."
"That'll make completing the mission even harder than before."
Kakashi was focused entirely on the mission itself. Though his eyes held some concern for Rin, even at such a young age, he knew how to prioritize. In his view, the mission came before Rin's safety.
But at this point, Kakashi and Obito stood at opposite extremes. Obito Uchiha, born into the Uchiha Clan, valued emotions far more than missions. He would abandon a mission to rescue even a teammate he wasn't particularly close to, let alone Rin, the girl he had always loved.
"Everything you've said is just speculation! What if the Stone Ninja who kidnapped Rin isn't thinking that far ahead?"
"The mission doesn't matter anymore. We should rescue Rin first!"
Obito seemed unable to contain his fury. He shouted at Kakashi.
"Some sacrifices are inevitable if a ninja is to complete a mission."
"That's the 'rules'!"
"If we fail this mission, the war will go on for who knows how much longer."
"Even more people might die in this war."
