After Uzumaki Kuming left, Minato Namikaze asked Uchiha Itachi a few more simple questions. Perhaps Minato could tell that Itachi was not in a good state of mind, because he sent Itachi home early and kept Maruboshi Kosuke behind to ask for the specific details of the mission.
When Uchiha Itachi got home, Fugaku had already returned from the Police Station. As soon as Fugaku saw Itachi come through the door, a faint smile appeared on his face.
"Itachi, you're back!"
"I heard you did very well on this mission, and I heard you awakened your Sharingan!"
"Itachi, you really are my son. Well done!"
Uchiha Fugaku patted his son on the shoulder and praised him. But his words did little to cheer Itachi up. Uchiha Itachi glanced at his father in surprise, then quickly lowered his head and said:
"Thank you, Father." Although that was what he said aloud, Uchiha Itachi couldn't help wondering why his father didn't seem concerned at all that the two members of his team had died on the mission.
The mission failed! My two teammates died!
Why? My teammates are dead!
Uchiha Itachi screamed inwardly, but he kept his feelings hidden in front of Fugaku. Fugaku didn't notice anything unusual about Itachi. After praising him a few more times, he headed into another room. Once Fugaku was gone, Itachi watched his father's back and clenched his fists. He felt that his father didn't understand him.
Without saying anything more, Uchiha Itachi let out a weary sigh and returned to his bedroom.
But Itachi hadn't rested for long when someone pushed the door open. A little boy poked his head into the room and looked around for Itachi. When he spotted him, a radiant smile spread across his face.
"Big Brother, you're back!"
