Seeing Dr. Isaacs's somewhat excited expression, Wesker adjusted his sunglasses and asked, "Dr. Isaacs, are you sure about this?"
"Of course!"
Dr. Isaacs nodded confidently. "In my estimation, that young man named Ren Ze has far greater potential than Alice. If I had to choose between Alice and Ren Ze—"
"I would abandon the Alice Program without hesitation. After all, we can replicate Alice's blood and tissue. While the results may not match the original, we have far too little information on Ren Ze. He is simply too mysterious and powerful!"
"Perhaps we were all wrong. Evolution brought about by the T-Virus may not be humanity's future. I believe Ren Ze is humanity's future. If we can capture him, then through research and extracting his cellular tissue, all of us may be able to gain power beyond that of ordinary humans! When that time comes, what does it matter if we can't tame Zombies?"
At this point, Dr. Isaacs excitedly looked at everyone in the conference room. "When that time comes, we can all evolve into superhumans and return to the surface. Would we still need to fear Zombies then?!"
Looking at his excited subordinates, Wesker pondered briefly before nodding. "In that case, what should we do now? Does the company have detailed information on him?"
"Actually, no."
Dr. Isaacs spread his hands helplessly. "That is the problem."
"Other than knowing that his name is Ren Ze, that he suddenly appeared during the Hive incident, that he was intimately familiar with many of Umbrella Corporation's secrets, and the combat footage sent back by the Nemesis Program, we know nothing else. To learn more about him, I searched through databases across the world, but found no trace that he had ever existed! If the company had not discovered the two helicopters that were supposed to be carrying out missions in Raccoon City in the northeastern outskirts of Salt Lake City, followed by the footage exposing the Raccoon City incident that targeted our company, I wouldn't even be sure whether he and Alice were still alive! Unfortunately, I sent people to investigate Salt Lake City for half a month and found nothing. Then the biohazard outbreak erupted, and we had no choice but to withdraw to the underground base..."
"In other words, he is too mysterious! So mysterious that even Umbrella Corporation cannot find a single lead on him!"
After hearing Dr. Isaacs, Wesker fell silent for a while. "In that case, I will have everyone cooperate with you at full capacity. The company's satellites and artificial intelligence will do everything they can to track down this man and Alice!"
"Thank you!"
Hearing Wesker's promise, Dr. Isaacs smiled.
"I will grant you the highest level of authorization in the North American branch. If you need anything else, you may contact headquarters directly. That concludes this meeting."
With that, Wesker's figure flickered and vanished. Soon afterward, the people from the other branches also disappeared from their seats.
It turned out that everyone attending the meeting had merely been holographic projections from Umbrella's underground bases around the world.
In the desert, inside a gas station.
"Try using your Psychic Power to scan the surrounding area. It may not be as detailed as observing with your eyes, but it shouldn't be difficult to detect living people and Zombies. That way, you won't be ambushed by Zombies or bad people!"
Ren Ze stopped Alice just as she was about to get out of the car and search for supplies.
Hearing Ren Ze's words, Alice closed her eyes and released her Psychic Power. It extended into several rooms of the gas station, probing every corner.
"It's safe inside. There are no living people or Zombies left! Ren Ze, you're amazing! I never thought Psychic Power could be used for scouting. This will make things much safer from now on! By the way, why didn't you teach me this when we went out searching for supplies before?"
Alice asked excitedly.
"That was to cultivate their vigilance. Other than you, who possess Psychic Power, everyone else is an ordinary person. If they get used to relying on your protection, the consequences will be severe when they have to go out alone to carry out missions!"
Ren Ze explained.
"I understand. I'll be more careful in the future too."
Alice answered as she continued practicing her new skill.
"This is the Claire Rescue Team. We are located at the Desert Footprint Motel, searching for survivors. Is anyone nearby?"
A transmission suddenly came over the radio.
"It's a new signal, not a recording! Should we go take a look?"
Alice asked.
"Sure. Let's go see."
Ren Ze thought for a moment, then agreed.
There were many survivors in Claire's convoy, including many children. In this apocalypse, they should save as many people as possible. Though they were ordinary people, once they reached the settlement, they could at least contribute to strengthening it.
"By the way, Ren, do you think this person named Claire is sincerely searching for survivors? Could she be like those people we ran into at the police station last time, only after women and food?"
Alice suddenly asked Ren Ze somewhat gloomily.
"How can you define whether someone is good or bad without seeing them for yourself? You have to believe that kind people still exist in this world. Don't ever lose hope in the world!"
Ren Ze smiled as he comforted her.
"I'm just a little worried. How far are we from the motel they mentioned in the broadcast?"
"Judging from the map, we should arrive in about half an hour. Let's go. Time to move out!"
Umbrella Corporation's North American branch, underground research base.
Dr. Isaacs watched as an assistant injected serum into a Zombie strapped to a chair.
The Zombie, which had been struggling continuously, gradually calmed down. Its cloudy pupils also turned pitch-black.
At Isaacs's signal, the assistant carefully moved a cell phone in front of the Zombie. The Zombie picked it up, flipped it open, put it to its ear, and assumed the posture of answering a call.
It then took the camera Isaacs handed over and snapped a photo of three people!
"My God! This is unbelievable! We... succeeded?"
One assistant asked with astonishment written all over his face.
"It has memories and reasoning skills. The serum worked. You tamed them. Congratulations, Doctor!"
Another assistant congratulated Isaacs.
The moment he finished speaking, the Zombie suddenly flew into a rage after failing to fit the blocks into their matching box. Its entire body broke free of the chains restraining it, and it pounced on one of the assistants!
Seeing this, Isaacs turned and left without hesitation, shutting the laboratory door behind him. He remained unmoved no matter how the other assistant begged.
Desert Footprint Motel.
"Claire, something's wrong. We can't stay here—get everyone into the vehicles, now!"
The person on watch spoke into the radio as he watched several crows flying in beyond the car window.
"I see them. Everyone get in the vehicles and shut the windows tight! Stay quiet!"
Claire replied in a low voice.
Once everyone had taken shelter inside the vehicles, more and more crows began landing on the utility poles outside. What had started as two or three soon became a dense mass, crowding the poles.
Then, a crow landed on the hood of a car. Its eyes were bloodshot and clouded over; it had clearly been infected with the T-Virus.
Clang!
At the sound of a can falling onto the floor inside the car, the crow immediately began flapping and shrieking, as though sounding the horn for an attack. The crows that had been silently perched on the wires all took flight, forming a black cloud as they circled the convoy.
"Start the vehicles immediately! We're leaving!"
Seeing this, Claire immediately picked up the radio and gave the order.
As the engines started and the convoy prepared to leave, the minibus packed with children in the middle ran into trouble. Its wheels had sunk into a sand pit, making it impossible to move, and the convoy was thrown into a dire crisis.
Some people drew their guns and fired at the flock overhead, but it was completely useless. Instead, it only provoked the zombified crows further.
Just as everyone in the convoy was prepared to risk their lives to pull the children out of the minibus and escape through the flock, a roar suddenly sounded in the distance.
Claire instinctively turned her head and saw a young man in sunglasses riding a motorcycle toward them with a woman on the back. As the motorcycle sped over a rock and launched into the air, the two of them jumped off stylishly, while the bike continued flying on momentum into the flock of crows.
"Alice, now!" Ren Ze shouted.
