Background

The Shi Family was a provincial-level power based in Zhonghai City, with influence across Four Seas Province. Its prestige eclipsed that of Eastsea City’s leading families; even An Fugui, heir to the An Family, behaved deferentially before Shi Hong, the Shi Family’s Third Young Master 198.

One year before its destruction, the Shi Family exterminated Eastsea City’s Wu Family. It deliberately spared Wu An, treating the surviving heir as prey rather than eliminating him outright 198. The family later revealed that it had acted under coercion: an unidentified intruder threatened the Shi Family and ordered it to seize an item from the Wu Family. When the Wus refused, the Shi Family attacked but failed to recover the object 326.

The sought item was a dragon-shaped jade pendant, a Wu Family heirloom once worn by Wu An. The Shi Family believed Wu An’s parents escaped overseas with it, while publicly claiming that the entire Wu Family had died 326 327.

Conflict with Wu An

Eastsea City confrontation

Shi Hong traveled to Eastsea City to seize Wu An, expecting that resolving the matter would strengthen his standing and help him compete for leadership of the Shi Family. He dismissed General Chen’s earlier support for Wu An as a one-time favor and brought Wudang disciple Clear Wind as protection against possible interference 198.

The plan failed when Wu An defeated Clear Wind’s Taiji techniques, exposed his inferior grasp of Silk-Winding Hand, and refused to be intimidated by the Shi Family’s provincial status 199 200. Wu An then used Conqueror’s Haki and the Sharingan to dominate Shi Hong and his companion, sending them back to Zhonghai with a fatal “gift” 203 204.

Retaliation under Shi Tianming

Shi Hong’s death horrified the Shi Family, but Shi Tianming argued that hypnosis had caused it and took responsibility for pursuing Wu An 205. He initially considered Wu An insignificant, even while investigating an unknown swordsman capable of cutting apart a warship; he failed to recognize that Wu An could be connected to that attack 294 295.

After Wu An arrived in Zhonghai, Shi Tianming attempted indirect methods out of caution toward General Chen, including arranging for a woman to seduce Wu An. The scheme produced a scandal instead, while Tianming’s disappearance and the destruction of his villa alarmed the family 317 318.

Wu An ultimately destroyed Tianming’s villa, killed Tianming and his bodyguards with Dragon Flame, and declared that the remainder of the Shi Family would be next 304.

Siege of Shi Family Manor

Wu An publicly announced his arrival at the Shi Family manor as “Wu An of the Wu Family,” turning his revenge into an open challenge 318 319. The Shi Family answered with hundreds of armed guards, hidden snipers, and later Elder Zhang of Wudang 319 322.

Its defenses failed in rapid succession:

• Wu An exposed and captured all five hidden snipers within roughly ten seconds 321.
• Elder Zhang was severely defeated by a single casual deflection 323.
• Hundreds of bodyguards were overwhelmed in just over ten seconds; King’s Sword Intent cut down the remaining attackers and ended organized resistance 323 324.
• Shi Zongran’s attempts to invoke Zhonghai officials failed when each refused to assist after hearing the Wu Family’s name 324.

Wu An killed Shi Zongran, then engulfed the estate in Pure Yang Flame. After extracting the truth about the Wu Family massacre, the jade pendant, and his parents’ possible overseas escape, he reignited the flames and wiped out the Shi Family 324 325 326 327.

The Shi Family’s disappearance caused a major shock in Zhonghai’s upper circles. It was removed from the ranks of provincial-level families, and reports described the loss of hundreds of direct descendants and nearly a thousand bodyguards 348.

The destruction was largely suppressed from public view, but influential families understood that the Shi Family had offended a far more powerful figure. Zhonghai’s Shen and Liu Families subsequently approached Wu An with deference as “Mr. Wu” 349 358.
