Lin Zhao suddenly didn't want to care about Zhang Anzai, or at least didn't want to deal with him for the morning, even though he had treated her to breakfast.
She was even more annoyed when she remembered that this guy had already collected his meal subsidy for this.
Zhang Anzai understood her mentality perfectly well; it was the classic fear of one's brother suffering, yet also the fear of one's brother driving a Range Rover.
"Can't help it, who told me to be so outstanding?"
Having cleared this mission, his speed of completing his probation was now among the top in all of Group 7, if not among all the newcomers.
Although he was technically employee 01 of Group 7, that was just a serial number. The dozens of people ahead of him, including Lin Zhao, were all in the same batch as him, yet the gap had widened significantly. Aside from him, the others had at most completed nearly half of the requirements.
"But I reckon I'll be stuck here for a while; at least for a day or two, I'm out of commission..." Zhang Anzai slumped over his desk, tilting his head to look at the screen.
That's right, the side effects of the Ox-Horse Liver-Exploding Pill had officially kicked in. When he said he felt weak, he meant it—a deep, hollow weakness from the inside out.
In his current state, Zhang Anzai felt that if he claimed he had given up on working hard and had earned those 500 points last night from some wealthy woman in the company, people would actually believe him.
Of course, it was also because, aside from the physical exertion, the mental pressure of exploring that dungeon last night had been immense. He had to multitask and switch back and forth, which made him even more exhausted.
Fortunately, the effort was worth it. He wouldn't have to worry about his performance metrics for the next two weeks and could slack off for a while.
Well, after he finished his report, of course.
"That same player again? To clear such a complex dungeon, you really struck gold."
Having gone through such a complicated clearance process, Zhang Anzai was full of bitterness and needed to vent. Since Lin Zhao happened to ask what kind of dungeon had earned him another mid-to-high rating, he gave her a rough summary of the situation.
Using items to manually wire electricity, seeing through the mystery of Chen Xing's mechanics, and staying up all night to escape from an evil spirit—each of these feats made Lin Zhao green with envy.
"Players with high intelligence are just amazing..." Lin Zhao looked at another team of seemingly dim-witted players on the screen and miserably closed her eyes.
"Keep it low-key, keep it low-key," Zhang Anzai said calmly while typing his report.
Lin Zhao wore an expression of envious disbelief, and hearing him say that only made her angrier: "You're going to act humble after being carried by a god-tier player?"
Zhang Anzai replied, "We explored the dungeon together, you know."
In truth, Lin Zhao knew deep down that given the situation Zhang Anzai described, a player relying solely on being calm and composed and having high intelligence couldn't have finished it. Just the fact that memories were being tampered with was enough to trap and kill countless people.
Zhang Anzai also knew that this report of his would certainly attract a lot of attention.
Even though it was only a mid-to-high rating, the difficulty was still terrifyingly high.
And this wasn't an isolated case. If the higher-ups heard that the player who cleared this was the same one who cleared the Mountain Peddler dungeon, there was no telling how much scrutiny this would attract.
However, it wasn't a big problem; he had already considered what excuses to use.
Submitted along with the report this time was the personal profile of the player [Fate Controller].
It contained only a name, no image, and the lineage was listed as True-Form Scissors. Currently, there were no skills or items listed, and the talent was a version he had fabricated himself.
He knew the company's criteria for evaluating players very well: personal ability was important, but lineage carried the most weight.
In fact, the composition of a player's level was indeed like that; personal ability could greatly assist in exploration, but a powerful lineage, once developed, was enough to bridge almost any gap.
However, in the profile he filled out, the True-Form Scissors lineage was quite mediocre.
Therefore, although his performance in these two dungeons was astonishing, as long as he submitted this profile, the higher-ups would only view this player as an intelligence-based strategist and wouldn't pay him much extra attention.
"The company doesn't have the authority to access player data without permission. Even if they find my player account through internal channels, I'm the one who acts as the liaison."
"Even if they guess that the true lineage was hidden, that is the player's choice; they still can't do anything to me."
Zhang Anzai's move was actually quite standard. Everyone had been a newcomer once, and it wasn't easy to find a good seedling. Who would go around bragging loudly after finding a good player? What if your boss snatched them away by throwing resources at them?
Besides, good players weren't stupid. An innocent man is guilty of his own treasure; lineages could be stolen, and it wasn't uncommon for players to hide their own abilities.
"Settlement bonus: 260!" Zhang Anzai was quite surprised, as uploading player profiles didn't usually grant bonuses, so this must have all come from the dungeon information.
"But I suppose that makes sense. I should be the first to clear this dungeon; otherwise, with such disgusting content, I would have heard people talking about it before."
Zhang Anzai let out a long sigh: "The costs for those services down there are covered now..."
Having accomplished another major task, Zhang Anzai knew he would be targeted by his superiors. Compared to a conversation with a leader who would likely just chat and probe for information, he had many more important things to do.
"You've finished lunch, don't tell me you're going straight back to work?" Lin Zhao watched as Zhang Anzai polished off his lunch in a few quick bites.
Zhang Anzai shook his head:
"After looking at that dungeon last night, I feel like I might have been affected a bit. I need to head over to the Logistics Department. Besides... I've earned quite a few employee points lately, bought a few things, and need to go to the training room to try them out."
Upon hearing the first half, Lin Zhao immediately became alert: "You've been corrupted?"
Zhang Anzai shook his head: "Not sure. It shouldn't be anything like a curse; it's probably just some residual influence."
Lin Zhao nodded: "Take care of yourself, get it sorted as soon as possible. I'll go to the training room and save you a spot."
Zhang Anzai gave an okay sign.
It wasn't that Lin Zhao was going out of her way to do him a favor.
Although life as a newcomer in the company was bitter, there were truly some opportunities. Everyone's circumstances were different; not long after Lin Zhao joined the company, she often went to the training room specifically after lunch. One had to wonder if she had gained something from it early on.
Zhang Anzai didn't say much. After finishing his last few bites, he walked out of the cafeteria and stepped into the elevator.
From bottom to top, various floors were marked for different departments.
Employee access levels varied, meaning the floors one could visit were restricted. As new administrators, they generally didn't go anywhere outside of the few floors designated for administration.
Personnel, Finance, and Oversight had nothing to do with them at this stage.
The Archives and Planning departments held a wealth of information regarding instances that could actually aid their work, but without authorization from leadership, they were typically unable to access these two departments.
The Logistics Department was an exception; they had the most personnel, the most sub-groups, and a very broad range of operations.
If nothing else, it seemed they were the ones responsible for the cafeteria.
And the place Zhang Anzai was heading to now was also a sub-section of the Logistics Department.
The floors in the company were not numbered; they were always categorized by function. Zhang Anzai stood in the elevator for a moment, and the screen displayed: "[Logistics · Medical Group]."
