Xiao Yi Xian gazed at the slightly eerie smile on Li Xingluo's face and immediately understood why he had deliberately slowed his pace earlier, stopping every now and then to look at things along the roadside.
He had intentionally lured them here, but how could Li Xingluo have known these people would follow?
This was a question Xiao Yi Xian still could not fathom.
"I'll explain later. For now, let's go out and collect our gifts."
Li Xingluo slowly emerged from the dark ruins, brushing a few specks of dust from his clothes.
Xiao Yi Xian shook her head helplessly, followed him out, and stood by his side.
The sudden appearance of the two startled An Yun; he hadn't been looking for them, and if these two had launched a surprise attack, he feared he would already be a dead man.
The An Family disciples gathered around An Yun, accompanied by an An Family Elder, and the brief shock soon allowed An Yun to regain his composure.
"Are you looking for us?" Li Xingluo feigned ignorance.
"That's right!"
"I wonder what business you have with us?"
An Yun took the scroll of blueprints from his robe and shook it in his hand.
With a hint of anger, he said, "What do you think? A scrap of paper cost me twenty thousand gold coins. Tell me, who should pay for this?"
An Yun played the part of the extortionist to perfection, and the corners of Li Xingluo's mouth couldn't help but curl into a smile.
It was just as he had guessed: after being scolded by his father for squandering money, and having to save up today to bid on the Xuan-tier Advanced Dou Technique, he was surely feeling the pinch.
Yet, this spendthrift An Yun had gone and spent twenty thousand without a second thought.
"You bid on it, so naturally you pay. Do you expect this old man to pay for it?"
"You! If you hadn't deliberately driven up the price, would this young master have ended up like this?"
"That is where you are wrong. I was the first to bid; it was you who insisted on continuing. I saw that you liked the blueprints and politely let you have them. Now, not only are you ungrateful, but you also blame me? Isn't that making something out of nothing?"
Li Xingluo spoke lightly, making it clear he wouldn't be played for a fool while simultaneously mocking An Yun.
An Yun was so infuriated by Li Xingluo's words that he was left speechless.
"You..."
"Did I say something wrong? How about this: I'll take a loss and buy it back for one thousand gold coins. How does that sound?"
Li Xingluo could barely contain his joy; if not for the black robe covering him, An Yun would surely have been even angrier had he seen the expression on his face.
Xiao Yi Xian couldn't help but cover her mouth to stifle a laugh; she hadn't realized Li Xingluo had this side to him.
It didn't matter that Xiao Yi Xian was snickering, but her gesture caused the anger in An Yun's chest to erupt like a volcano.
This was blatant humiliation from Li Xingluo, and An Yun could not endure it.
"Fine, fine, fine! You clearly haven't bothered to ask about the status of my An Family in Maple Forest City. To provoke us like this—it seems you don't intend to leave Maple Forest City standing."
An Yun's face turned green with rage. As he spat out threats, he waved his hand, signaling the servants behind him to step forward and seize Li Xingluo and Xiao Yi Xian.
Eight An Family servants cracked their knuckles, looking quite formidable as they stepped out from behind An Yun, ready to teach Li Xingluo a lesson.
"Let me handle this!"
Li Xingluo stopped the already annoyed Xiao Yi Xian; he hadn't expected this group to be looking for a robbery.
Xiao Yi Xian nodded obediently and stayed where she was, while Li Xingluo clenched his fists.
The eight men hadn't even realized what was happening before a series of screams rang out. In an instant, all eight were rolling on the ground.
An Yun gulped; he hadn't even seen how Li Xingluo moved before his subordinates were all down. Such strength was beyond his imagination.
The An Family Elder felt a secret jolt of alarm. These eight were at least eight or nine-star Dou Practitioners—how could they not last a single round against this person?
Even for him, defeating the eight of them at once would not have been an easy task.
"Young Clan Head, I fear we've kicked an iron plate this time."
The An Family Elder whispered. An Yun's face was deathly pale from fright; the arrogance he had displayed just moments ago had vanished, replaced by trembling legs and a wandering gaze.
Seeing this, the An Family Elder grabbed An Yun and tried to run, but before they could even clear the courtyard gate, a figure blocked their path.
"Leaving already? Isn't that a bit impolite? You disturbed someone's rest—shouldn't you pay some compensation?"
The speed was terrifying. The An Family Elder was horrified and let go of An Yun's arm, hoping to give him a chance to escape.
The An Family Elder took the initiative to attack, seeking an opening for An Yun to flee.
"Young Clan Head, run!"
Seeing the An Family Elder charging at him with lethal intent, Li Xingluo dodged and seized the Elder's vital point.
An Yun had already been scared to the point of wetting himself by Li Xingluo's display of power; a pungent odor wafted through the air, and he was no longer capable of moving.
When dealing with pampered brats who had no real substance, one only needed to use strength, and they would immediately turn into cowards.
Li Xingluo showed no mercy to the Elder who had tried to kill him. With a single palm strike, the man flew backward, slammed into a crumbling wall, rolled onto the ground, and after a few final struggles, his soul departed to the underworld.
The Elder's corpse landed just a short distance from An Yun, his eyes wide open in death, staring fixedly at him.
An Yun collapsed to the ground, his eyes filled with sheer terror.
Li Xingluo walked slowly toward An Yun, his shadow stretching long under the moonlight. Seeing the shadow on the ground approaching him, An Yun was struck with terror, the blueprint in his hand dropping to the side.
Li Xingluo calmly picked up the blueprint from the ground. The moment he touched it, an inexplicable feeling welled up in his heart, one he could not quite put into words.
"Don't kill me..."
An Yun repeated this phrase incessantly, completely losing his composure. In truth, what Li Xingluo did not know was that the reason An Yun had fought for that scrap of paper—which he couldn't understand at all—was because of the look Liu Ya had cast toward Li Xingluo at the auction house.
An Yun had assumed that Liu Ya rejected his courtship because of Li Xingluo; it was quite a grievance for Li Xingluo to be forced to shoulder such a blame.
Li Xingluo glanced down at An Yun, who was sitting in a large puddle of urine, and pinched his nose, waving his hand in utter disgust.
Xiao Yi Xian was even more repulsed; the transformation of this fellow from arrogant to pathetic had been far too swift.
Even after Li Xingluo and Xiao Yi Xian had departed, An Yun remained unable to snap out of his state of terror.
It was only when the injured servants saw that Li Xingluo and Xiao Yi Xian had left that they hurriedly scrambled to their feet and ran to An Yun's side to pull him up.
Without the oppressive pressure of Li Xingluo, An Yun regained his bravado, completely forgetting the humiliating scene that had just transpired.
He slapped the servant nearest to him and barked loudly, "Useless trash! The eight of you couldn't even handle one person. What does the An Family even pay you for?"
The eight men dared not respond to An Yun; they could only complain of the injustice in their hearts while keeping their mouths shut, bowing their heads in grievance to admit their fault.
An Yun put on a ferocious display once more: "Hmph, daring to provoke this young master—I will make sure you don't leave Maple Forest City alive."
"Eldest Young Master, what shall we do now?"
It would have been better had he not asked; this question earned him another slap, one that made his vision swim with stars.
"Idiots! Send people to find them immediately. If you can't find them, don't bother coming back."
The eight men dared not delay, immediately scattering like birds and beasts to begin their search. An Yun glanced at the elder who had died with his eyes wide open in resentment, a scheme suddenly forming in his mind as a sinister smile curled his lips.
