Background
Byron and his younger sister, Della, were illegitimate children of the Red Dragon Family. He grew up with her beside a blacksmith, originally intending to become a smith himself. The family later seized Della and imprisoned her, harvesting her dragon blood and fragments of her soul to nourish a true red dragon. This made Byron’s commercial and political ambitions inseparable from his desire to rescue her and exact revenge on the Pendragons. 154
Over more than a decade in the North, Byron built the Bode Chamber of Commerce and cultivated influence among nobles through money, bribery, blackmail, and knowledge of their weaknesses. Although Pendragon profits from his work, Byron claims the chamber itself is wholly under his control. 99 154
Appearance
Byron is described as blond-haired, with blue eyes in his early appearance; later accounts describe his eyes as dark green. 53 130 151
- Often presents himself with polished merchantly refinement, including formal dress and a monocle. 93 130
- Travels by transport griffin when urgency demands it. 90 92
Personality
Byron’s guiding principle is to pay as little as possible for the greatest possible profit. He is calculating, opportunistic, and shamelessly willing to exploit another party’s desperation, as shown by his first attempt to obtain Aurelian’s potions in exchange for supplies worth far less than their value. 53 63
He is also adaptable. After Aurelian outmaneuvers and intimidates him during the potion negotiations, Byron abandons open hostility in favor of a strategic alliance. He recognizes Aurelian’s potential, comparing his resolve and ambition to King Arthur’s. 94 96 99 100
His composure breaks when Della is involved. Beneath his mercantile persona, he is fiercely devoted to his sister and driven by hatred for the Red Dragon Family. 154 168

Story Role / Major Arcs
Magic Potion Negotiations
Aurelian’s letter about magic potions shocks Byron, who cannot understand how Winter Territory could possess a resource associated with Pendragon lands. Tempted by resale profits and pressured by his own need for potions, he attempts to obtain the entire supply cheaply. 53
Byron travels north by griffin and meets Aurelian in Winter City. Their negotiation becomes a contest of leverage: Byron invokes Winter’s supply problems, while Aurelian exposes Byron’s dependence on Pendragon and raises the potion price to 600 Star Coins per pound. 90 92 93 94
Shadow Incident and Alliance
After the negotiation, Byron sends Shadow to inspect Winter City’s warehouse without permission. Noe captures him, and Aurelian publicly uses the incident to extract compensation for Frost Town’s residents. 95 96 97
Byron’s suspicion over Noe’s presence is dispelled when Aurelian shows him the Hero Cemetery and explains that he defeated a barbarian tribe rather than submitting to one. Byron subsequently offers the Bode Chamber’s support, while Aurelian proposes multiple trade routes between Winter City and Eternal Night City. 98 99 100
Plan to Rescue Della
In Eternal Night City, Byron reveals Della’s fate and asks Aurelian to assist in rescuing her during Arthur Pendragon’s coming-of-age ceremony. He offers his northern influence and covert network in exchange for Aurelian’s support. 154
He later instructs Aurelian to challenge the arena and create a major disturbance, advancing their shared plan against Pendragon. 185
Rescue of Aurelian’s Attendants
When Noe, Renn, and others disappear in Eternal Night City, Byron agrees to investigate. He identifies Sien House as a plausible suspect, leads Aurelian to Good Luck Casino, and deploys his black-armored men to clear the underground facility. 164 165 167
Although Byron cannot locate the captives himself, Aurelian’s Presence Detection reveals their hidden prison behind a stone wall. Byron witnesses Aurelian’s spellcasting and destructive methods, choosing not to pry into secrets Aurelian does not wish to share. 167
