"Their family doesn't seem to get along very well," Sonoko whispered, leaning close to Chen's ear.

"Sonoko, what are you two whispering about so close together?" Ran asked softly as she leaned over.

For some reason, when Sonoko had leaned close to Chen just now, Ran had felt a little uncomfortable.
