The Hunt

This day was the hunting day for Yijiang City's major families, a major event for the entire city. The whole city had descended into celebration. A large portion of the crowd had come from other cities to watch the ceremony, while quite a few had been invited to take part in the hunt.

Yijiang City's hunt sounded simple enough, but behind it lay a contest of strength between the major families. After all, whichever family claimed first place would receive tax concessions for the coming year—an exceptionally valuable benefit for any of them.

The rules of the hunt were simple as well. Young members under the age of twenty from each major family would enter a secluded area outside Yijiang City and hunt the Spirit Beasts within. The family that obtained the most Spirit Beasts, and the highest-ranked ones, would take first place.

In the past, participation had been restricted to members of the families themselves. But later, the circumstances changed, and families were allowed to seek outside help to participate on their behalf.

The origin of this change was none other than the Mu Family—or, more precisely, Mu Li!

Because Mu Li's status as an adopted son was known to everyone, the other families made an issue of it. Though he was the eldest young master of Mu Manor, outsiders did not consider him a true son of the Mu Manor.

If the Mu Family sent Mu Li to participate in the hunt, then they were allowing an outsider to take part. The other families all believed this was deeply unfair to them.

Their response was simple: they sought out powerful youths, pretended to adopt them as sons, and then sent them to participate in the hunt. As a result, the entire hunting competition became a complete mess.
