Cersei gripped Jaime's arm. "You will succeed Father as Hand of the King. I needn't tell you that you understand the necessity of it, Tom—"
After a slight pause, she continued, "I need you, Jaime."
Candlelight danced in the jewel-green pools of Cersei's eyes. Jaime stared at her for a moment, then gave a mocking smile. "Sister, don't joke. I'm not fit to rule."
Cersei's patience seemed nearly exhausted. "Rule? You're the one joking. I want you to succeed Father's position, not rule the kingdom."
She lifted her chin slightly. "Until my son comes of age, I will rule the kingdom."
Hearing that, Ser Jaime had to admit... he had still underestimated Cersei's thirst for power.
His gaze shifted to his father's peacefully resting body. "I don't know whom I should pity—the Seven Kingdoms, Tommen, or the Lannisters."
