The firewood crackled as it burned, sparks leaping from the brazier.
Gryn took a swig of wine and said, "From what I know, Queen Regent Cersei wants to curb Tyrell's power in the Red Keep."
Ser Jaime stared at the wildly dancing flames. After a pause, he said, "But Tyrell is not Lannister's enemy. I... cannot make her change her mind."
Gryn's brown eyes shifted toward Jaime, the corner of his mouth curving slightly. "Since you know Cersei is hostile toward Tyrell, why did you leave her alone in the Red Keep?"

Ser Jaime shot Gryn a sidelong glance, then lounged back in his chair and tipped back a large gulp of wine. "To be honest, she no longer needs me. It has nothing to do with whether she loves me or not."
Jaime seemingly did not wish to continue discussing Cersei, so he directly changed the subject. "Gryn, my brother... is he well?"
Gryn glanced at Jaime and nodded slightly. "If there is no news, then he is living well enough. You should trust his tongue."
Jaime shrugged. "It's precisely that nimble tongue of his that worries me most."
Gryn smiled, then rose to his feet and patted Jaime on the shoulder. "Ser, come take a walk with me."
The night sky was deep and dark blue. The Red Fork flowed silently through the darkness, while the reeds along its banks swayed softly with a faint rustling sound.
"Whenever war breaks out, it brings all kinds of destruction."
Stopping in his tracks, Gryn casually pointed in several directions. "Though those places are now overgrown with weeds, they were once fertile lands."
His gaze stretched toward the pitch-black distance.
