The Tully soldiers sprang into action at once, working together to carry huge wooden barrels filled with boiling oil up to the battlements.
"Pour the boiling oil!"
At the officer's roar, the barrels tipped—the scalding oil cascaded down like roaring waterfalls, forming blazing arcs in the air.
Miserable screams erupted in an instant, as though they came from the Seven Hells—sharp, shrill, and piercing to the ear.
The pouring oil swiftly seeped through the enemy's armor and clothing. The armor became searing hot under the heat, while their clothes burst into flames, sending up choking black smoke.
The Lannister Soldiers burned by the oil writhed in agony, their faces twisted beyond recognition by the unbearable pain... Some fell from the siege ladders, crashing directly onto the soldiers below.
Others rolled wildly upon the ground, futilely slapping at the flames on their bodies, trying to extinguish that torment from hell.
The once-surging tide of attack immediately fell into chaos and stalled. The Lannister army rushing toward the walls stared in terror at the boiling oil pouring down from above, their eyes filled with fear and despair.
The soldiers' steps retreated of their own accord. Their formerly tight formation began to loosen as they shoved and trampled one another, plunging everything into disorder.
Yet the commanders behind them still frantically drove them onward, loudly cursing as they herded the soldiers back toward the walls like sheep.
Beneath the largest roaring lion banner at the rear, Daven Lannister, Warden of the West, drew his sword and roared, "No retreat! Damn it, any man who retreats will be slain where he stands!"
"No retreat! Don't fall back! Attack!"
"Attack! Attack!"
Though the Lannister Soldiers were filled with terror, under threat, they had no choice but to grit their teeth and launch another attack that
