The next morning, Lord Aenys Frey personally led two thousand Frey soldiers into the Lannister camp in a grand procession.
Lord Aenys wore splendid attire and rode a tall horse. In the distance... dust kicked up by the Frey soldiers drifted through the sunlight.
"I kept my promise, so you..." Before he could finish, Lord Aenys let out a snickering laugh, then flashed a fawning smile at Jaime and Daven, who had come to receive him. To Jaime, that smile was like a false flower in bloom.
Seeing Daven stand there stiff-faced and silent, Ser Jaime paused slightly. His erect figure cast a long shadow beneath the sun.
He forced a smile. "Thank you for the Freys' support. We are honored that you came in person."
Lord Aenys nodded repeatedly, his smile growing even brighter. "It was right for me to come. Very right."
Then he rubbed his hands together and nervously added, "As agreed, your promise..."
Helplessly, Ser Jaime gave his stone-faced cousin a look. Only then did Ser Daven speak impatiently, his voice carrying suppressed fury. "Hand command of the Frey army over to me. As agreed, I will write to the Queen Regent and the Small Council, proposing that Riverrun be 'given' to you."
Lord Aenys hesitated where he stood, his gaze shifting between Jaime and Daven.
After a moment, his eyes settled on Jaime. In a flattering tone, he said, "I hope that letter will bear your signature as well."
Before Jaime could answer, Ser Daven spoke first, anger in his voice. "Lord Frey, are you questioning my sincerity?"
Lord Aenys hurriedly shook his head, the exaggerated motion almost comical.
"No, no, no. I just think... I only think..."
