Melisandre's distinctive voice, tinged with a Jade Sea accent, drifted over.

Her skirts swayed slightly as she approached Tyrion. Gently stroking the top of his head, she continued, "What Eddard Stark saw was that those two bastards carried Robert's blood. Yet His Majesty Stannis, who bears the fate of the entire world upon his shoulders, had no choice but to make a decision—for humanity's survival."

Looking down at Tyrion with gentle eyes, she said again, "The Long Night approaches, and darkness is everywhere. The Lord of Light pities mankind, yet the direwolf of The North still confuses selfish desires with justice."

Melisandre lowered herself, her soft yet scorching hands grasping Tyrion's cheeks as she lightly kissed his forehead.

His one black and one green eye seemed to sink into her flame-like gaze. "Our great king cannot continue wasting time. Brave little lion, the Son of Fire's great undertaking to save humanity... requires your contribution."

Tyrion's breathing grew heavy despite himself. The iron-like Stannis had placed his trust in him with blunt words...
