Arya first nodded demurely, then her expression changed as she asked excitedly, "Is Gryn coming to Winterfell? I heard it from Maester Luwin, Mother. Is it true?"
"Heard it?"
A stern mother was even more terrifying than a White Walker. Arya immediately lost her nerve. "I overheard Sansa talking with Maester Luwin. I only heard it by accident—I wasn't eavesdropping."
"Next time, if you happen to overhear their conversation, remember to remind them yourself, Lady Arya."
"Why?"
Lady Catelyn took her younger daughter's hand again and explained as they walked, "Sansa is learning how to govern the lands from Maester Luwin. What they discuss may concern the stability of the North. For example..."
Arya was curious. "For example what?"
Lady Catelyn answered gently and patiently, "For example, Gryn I's visit to Winterfell is confidential. If his enemies learned of it in advance because of Winterfell..."
Arya interrupted in surprise, "Gryn's enemies? Stannis?"
Lady Catelyn felt her patience nearing its end. After a pause, she spoke slowly. "Yes. If Gryn I were endangered because of our negligence, it would be a grave offense."
Arya immediately covered her mouth, then her eyes darted about. "Sansa was far too careless! Mother, you should teach her a proper lesson!"
As she spoke, the Little Wolf Girl grew more excited. She could not even remember how many times she had been tattled on. Hypocritical Sansa always pretended to be so well-behaved—this was a rare chance to catch her in the act!
Besides, this was not sneaking around to tattle. She was making an open and honorable accusation!
Lady Catelyn could not help sighing inwardly. Her elder and younger daughters seemed like natural enemies. Over the past few years, she had mediated so many quarrels between them... that she had become numb to them.
