Background

Medusa ruled the Snake-People Tribe from its Royal City in the Tagor Desert. She confronted Hai Bodong after he trespassed into Snake-People territory, overpowering him before Yao Chen intervened. Her ensuing battle with Yao Chen destroyed her Snake Emperor Heart-Protecting Shield and left her injured, though she refused to retreat despite the disadvantage. 13

After Yao Chen departed, Medusa convened her four commanders and four elders to assess him as a threat. She ordered stronger defenses, intelligence gathering, continued training for the tribe's champions, and an attempt at negotiation rather than committing immediately to war. 19

When Yao Chen arrived at the Royal City to address the conflict, Medusa initially joined the elders in attacking him. After he defeated them with the Star Annihilation Sword, she accepted responsibility for the earlier clash and offered to bear the consequences alone rather than endanger her tribe. The confrontation was ultimately recognized as a misunderstanding, and she hosted Yao Chen at a banquet to make amends. 20 21 22

During the banquet, Medusa prevented the Great Elder from assassinating the intoxicated Yao Chen, reasoning that killing a high-level alchemist could bring ruin upon the Snake-People Tribe. She personally escorted him to his room and remained beside him after he unconsciously held her arm through the night. 23 After Yao Chen left, she kept his letter and jade pendant, learning his name from the letter. 24

Months later, Medusa called for Yao Chen's aid when Wu Li and the Poison Sect overwhelmed her tribe. After he eliminated Wu Li and cured the victims of poison, she offered him the position of Snake-People Tribe master; Yao Chen declined, citing his promise to protect them. 49

Yao Chen subsequently helped Medusa use the Dream-Illusion Blazing Flame to advance to Dou Zong. The breakthrough triggered a Snake-People side effect that required her to unite with a member of the opposite sex; she and Yao Chen spent the night together, deepening their relationship and raising her cultivation to two-star Dou Zong. 50 51

Her leadership is tempered by pragmatism. She rejected reckless escalation, halted the First Elder's impulsive attack, and later recognized that diplomacy with Yao Chen was necessary for the tribe's survival. 19 20 She also assumed personal responsibility for the tribe's actions when Yao Chen defeated the elders, asking him not to punish her people. 21

Around Yao Chen, Medusa becomes noticeably more reserved and affectionate.
