What were sewers supposed to look like?

Aside from a few workers who repaired pipes, few people had ever actually gone into a sewer and seen one.

Most people probably imagined such places as narrow, damp, filthy, and disgusting. And most of those impressions came from books, movies, and other media.

But Li Si was seeing one for himself now.

The sewer wasn't as bad as he'd imagined. At the very least, it wasn't narrow. The word "pipe" was somewhat misleading; compared to a pipe, the sewer that carried the city's wastewater was more like an air-raid shelter.

I didn't know if sewers elsewhere were like this, but at least New York's were enormous—several people tall, and wide enough for several people to walk side by side.

The walls weren't as damp and slimy as he'd imagined, either. In fact, the water in the whole sewer barely came up to his ankles. There was a smell, but it was faint.

All in all, he didn't mind this trip through the sewers, especially after he found the laboratory Lizard had secretly set up there two days earlier.

How could he put it? It was like the excitement and sense of security a little boy felt when he found his secret hideout. The peaceful atmosphere also made it easy to calm down.

Of course, Li Si hadn't forgotten why he'd come. As soon as he found Curt Connors's temporary lab, he began copying the files from the computer.

Although he'd already obtained Richard Parker's complete research files at Roosevelt Station, that didn't mean the Lizard's Regeneration Serum research was unimportant.

Quite the opposite. Li Si considered Curt Connors's research more important than Richard Parker's gene-fusion experiments.

Both were cross-species genetic experiments, but they focused on entirely different things.
