Background / History
Max began as an employee of the Department of Electricity and the designer of New York's entire power grid. He was intensely proud of the work, though his excitement made him ramble when discussing it with Lee Stein. Lee recognized the quality of his designs and treated him as a friend from their first substantial conversation. 16
Lee later brought Max into his Transformer project, relying on his expertise to help address its wiring problems. Max assisted with Bumblebee's early activation and voice-recognition tests, then continued working alongside Lee as the latter's assistant. 19 31 85
Max initially struggled with crowds and public attention. He wanted recognition but lacked confidence in social situations, so Lee pushed him to help sell equipment and interact with customers rather than remain isolated. 74 85
Following an incident at Oscorp, Lee carried Max home from the tower; Max's subsequent awakening marked his transition away from an ordinary human life. By the time of Stein Tower's later projects, he was an energy being working alongside Lee and Otto Gunther. 131 201
Appearance
Before his awakening, Max was a Black man who worked in the Department of Electricity. In his God of Earth manifestation, his body is a glowing blue form that is half energy and half flesh. 16 427
- His grid-linked form initially exceeds three meters in height and can grow to twenty-five meters while absorbing electricity. 427
- He wears dark-blue armor formed from countless finger-thick, diamond-shaped metal pieces. 427
- His eyes turn a deep seabed blue while communicating with auxiliary systems. 427
Personality
Max is enthusiastic and deeply proud of his technical achievements, especially the New York power grid. His excitement can overwhelm his social awareness, making him visibly nervous, overly eager, or prone to rambling. 16 19
He is also insecure around unfamiliar people and crowds despite wanting others to recognize his value. Over time, he becomes more outgoing around Lee's circle, even attempting clumsy displays of status while talking with strangers. 74 85
Max is unwaveringly loyal to Lee. When the implications of the god-making plan concern Otto Gunther, Max immediately offers to protect Earth without hesitation. 388
Abilities & Skills
Electrical Engineering
Max possesses exceptional expertise in electrical infrastructure and power-grid design.
- Designed New York's entire power grid. 16
- Assisted Lee with the Transformer project, particularly its wiring and power-related work. 19 31
- Later serves as Stein Group's Power Department director. 477
Electrical Energy Manipulation
As an energy being and the God of Earth, Max can wield and absorb electrical power on a massive scale.
- Destroys a Chitauri Leviathan with lightning strikes. 426
- Draws energy from the Stein Group radio network and cooperating power plants across numerous countries. 427
- Enlarges his body dramatically as energy accumulates. 427
- Without grid support—or after his stored electricity is depleted—he is only a weak current possessing consciousness. 477
Grid-Linked Combat Systems
Max can integrate his powers with Stein Group technology for greater control and strategic capacity.
- Activates the Electromagnetic Heart as a drive system. 427
- Uses auxiliary computation and temporary support from Skynet. 427
- The planned Thunder King Armor is intended to provide computational support, electromagnetic weapons, and Immersive Command-based strategic assistance. 405
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Lightning King Armor — Dark-blue modular armor made from diamond-shaped metal pieces that embed across Max's body. 427
- Electromagnetic Heart — Drive system used to channel and control gathered electrical energy. 427
- Radio network — The infrastructure enabling his planet-scale energy supply. 427 477
- Skynet — Temporarily serves as an auxiliary intelligence during his Chitauri-invasion deployment. 427
- Thunder King Armor — A still-in-development armor design meant to augment Max through computation, electromagnetic equipment, and immersive command support. 405
Relationships
- Lee Stein — Friend, employer, and project partner. Lee recruits Max into the Transformer project, pushes him to build confidence, and later receives Max's unconditional support for Earth’s defense. 16 19 74 388
- Otto Gunther — Fellow Stein Group researcher. Max works alongside Otto and finds amusement in Otto's exhausted, overweight condition during their intensive work period. 201
- Peter Parker — Part of Max's social circle through Lee; they share meals at Lee's home and engage in playful banter. 123 124
- Smith — Max's former superior and enemy from Oscorp's Power Department. Max secretly watches him after Smith comes to Stein Tower. 194
- Pandora — Provides system-level support; Pandora authorizes the computing power Max requests during his God of Earth deployment. 427
Story Role / Major Arcs
Transformer Development
Max becomes one of Lee's earliest technical collaborators, helping develop and test Bumblebee while serving as Lee's assistant. 19 31 85
Stein Tower Power Department
After his awakening, Max continues working at Stein Tower's expanding power laboratory. He remains wary of Smith, his former Oscorp superior, but is established within Lee's organization. 194 201
God-Making Plan
Max is central to Lee's plan to create an Earth defender empowered by the global wireless power network. He accepts the responsibility of protecting Earth without weighing the personal consequences. 388 405
Battle of New York
Max publicly manifests as the God of Earth during the Chitauri invasion, annihilating a Leviathan with lightning and altering the battlefield's power balance. 426
Global Energy Manifestation
Using the radio network, the Electromagnetic Heart, and auxiliary computation, Max becomes a colossal electrical combatant whose power draws directly on Earth's energy infrastructure. 427
Astral Nomads War
When Lee returns to reality to confront a major threat, Max offers assistance and is directed to handle the enemy legion below. 477

Trivia
- Max was unable to issue Bumblebee commands during early testing because the robot rejected his unauthorized voice signature. 31
- He once tried to hide under a cloak while spying on Smith at Stein Tower. 194
- Max's power is extraordinary only when supported by sufficient electrical energy; without the grid, he is reduced to a conscious weak current. 477
