"Senior Lee Stein, your Bumblebee is the coolest!"
Lee Si got out of the car with a stiff smile, and the crowd around him erupted. Every so often, a heart-wrenching shout rang out from somewhere in the crowd.
"Over here! Over here! Lee Stein, look this way!"
A small group suddenly waved a banner and shouted Lee Si's name.
When Lee Si heard them and turned around, they bent down and lowered the banner. Then, who knew whether they'd pulled them from their pants or picked them up off the ground, they each produced a... meme.
Everyone in the group held a piece of cardboard printed with a colorful meme. They were all images Bumblebee had previously posted on Twitter.
There was Bumblebee with a cilantro-green smile, Bumblebee with a cringeworthy grin that could kill you, and so on. Lee Si's already forced smile nearly slipped right off his face.
Even worse, not far behind them, a group of girls dressed like cheerleaders stood up high, shouting at the top of their lungs. He could just make out things like "Lee Stein, I love you!"
"Gwen, did we come to the wrong place?"
Lee Si's face stiff, he turned his head slightly. With a feat of contortion, he managed to keep up his awkward smile as he mumbled to Gwen.
"No, we didn't. Can't you see your fan club?"
Gwen was smiling too. She replied under her breath, then discreetly shot him a glare. As if staking her claim, she linked her arm through his right arm and led him out of the crowd.
Fortunately, no one tried to block their way. The crowd parted as they passed.
