Yun Jingheng entered the inner city with Tian Apo just as a dark-red halo erupted from the palace and transformed the city’s inhabitants into monsters. His Martial Soul protected him and kept him from killing the transformed people, so he fled toward the city gate while searching for a way to survive.

• Tian Apo escorted Yun Jingheng into the inner city, where the ground shook and a dark-red beam burst from beneath the palace, spreading a halo across the city.
• Tian Apo warned Yun Jingheng to run, then mutated and attacked him; his dormant Martial Soul pulled him out of reach, and its silver-white light briefly stopped her.
• Yun Jingheng saw the halo transform people throughout the city while he remained unaffected, then escaped across the rooftops as transformed residents pursued him.
• A wounded man stumbled from the Teleportation House and begged Yun Jingheng for help, but Yun Jingheng continued toward the city gate.

Yun Jingheng hid from the Mutants and encountered Chen Weitao in the ruins. Chen Weitao explained that Yun Jingheng's Moon Domain rift had released energy across the city, driving people whose Martial Souls could not withstand the moon's summons to mutate.

• Yun Jingheng escaped the pursuing Mutants and hid in a ruined building, where he watched them behaving strangely in the streets.
• Yun Jingheng heard someone climbing the ruined staircase and readied his Moonlight Sword as a black-robed figure approached.
• The figure revealed himself as Chen Weitao, who calmly watched the Mutants despite Yun Jingheng keeping his sword near his neck.

Chen Weitao revealed that the Moon Domain and everyone born within it were fragments of Yue Shen’s Godhood meant to merge with Yun Jingheng. He explained that a rebellious God Servant had arranged an attempt on Yun Jingheng’s life so he could claim Yue Shen’s vacant authority.

• Chen Weitao told Yun Jingheng that the Moon Domain was formed from Yue Shen’s scattered Godhead Fragments and that its inhabitants would eventually be absorbed by Yun Jingheng.
• Chen Weitao explained that he had tried to keep Yun Jingheng out of the Moon Domain but had entered to find and safely rescue him.
