The Third Hokage said with a grief-stricken expression, "Last night, the Uchiha Clan erupted into internal conflict. Your older brother, Uchiha Itachi, slaughtered the entire clan. Other than you, every Uchiha clansman was killed."
Sasuke's hands abruptly clenched into fists, his face growing incomparably ugly. He said, one word at a time, "You. Are. Lying."
The Third Hokage said quietly, "Sasuke, I understand how you feel, but this is already a fact. You need to pull yourself together. The Uchiha were one of Konoha's great clans; we will not stand idly by. Uchiha Itachi has been listed as an S-rank rogue ninja. As the Uchiha Clan's sole survivor, we will ensure your safety. From now on, Konoha is your home."
Sasuke paid no attention at all to what the Third Hokage was saying. He collapsed onto the hospital bed, his expression dark and dreadful. His entire being was filled with negative emotions—despondency, gloom, and darkness. Curled into a ball, he said nothing.
