"Your Divine Kingdom?" Kakashi cried out in surprise.
Shin smiled. "That's right, a divine realm that belongs to me. There, I can transform illusion into reality and reality into illusion, create things from nothing, and accomplish anything you can imagine. Though humanity's countless years of conflict stemmed in part from mutual hatred, many of them still ultimately came down to resources.
The countless animals in nature fought for nothing more than survival. Humans were no different in that regard.
There might have been many causes for war, but being unable to survive was undoubtedly the most serious of them. Any other conflict could be reconciled through words, but conflicts over survival could never be reconciled.
Let me give you an example. Suppose the Land of Earth had barren land, and one year a disaster struck, causing widespread famine throughout the country. If they did nothing, they could only watch their people die. At that time, the neighboring Land of Fire possessed vast stretches of fertile land. Though it too had suffered losses due to the natural disaster, it still had surplus grain.
Tell me, if you were the Feudal Lord of the Land of Earth, what would you do? I probably don't need to say more for you to understand. When it came down to whether you died or someone else did, people's choices had always been obvious. That was the nature of living creatures. There was nothing shameful about it.
But correspondingly, the Land of Fire had also suffered a disaster. Though it had surplus grain, it was only enough to see its own people through that year. Faced with an invasion from the Land of Earth, what would they do? Hand over what they had? Obviously, that was impossible.
Thus, war would become inevitable.
