Obito Uchiha's prototype originated from Tsukuyomi-no-Mikoto of Japanese mythology, whose original name was "Tsukuyomi-no-Mikoto." As the younger brother of Amaterasu Ōmikami, he was the great deity who governed the dark land of night, holding a status equal to Ōhirume, goddess of the sky, and Susanoo-no-Mikoto, god of the human world.
Legend held that Tsukuyomi-no-Mikoto mistakenly killed Ukemochi, the god of the five grains, at Mount Kamui.
Correspondingly, Obito Uchiha's name was connected to the "field scarecrow" in Kakashi's name, Hatake Kakashi—a scarecrow in a wheat field symbolizing the protection of the five grains. The scarecrow represented the role of safeguarding crops from harm, subtly echoing the image of the god of the five grains.
After mistakenly killing the god of the five grains, Tsukuyomi-no-Mikoto lived in darkness forever, and the mythological records concerning him came to an end as well.

From then on, the identity of "Obito Uchiha" ceased to exist. This transformation also symbolized the sin he bore because of a misunderstanding, as well as the process through which he ultimately chose to make amends and reconcile with Kakashi.
Furthermore, Mount Kamui, where Tsukuyomi-no-Mikoto mistakenly killed the god of the five grains, corresponded with Kamui, Obito Uchiha's unique ocular technique, further deepening the connection between the two.
Just as Shisui Uchiha concluded his journey to the Ancient Kingdom of Roran, elsewhere within the Land of Fire, The Six, including Itachi Uchiha, caught up with Obito Uchiha, who had defected from Konoha.
