Why could some children see the dim, shadowy lines of magical light, while others could not?

How exactly did mana circulate inside the body? Why was the probability of children awakening their bloodlines on the Gallop Plains higher than the Empire's average?

Ever since he had been wandering the Gallop Plains, Landen had been pondering these questions on and off. Only after he reached the high rank did those intermittent guesses finally form into a concept, and thus the territory's Potential Test Instrument came into being.

The Potential Instrument was similar to an illumination rod: a glasslike long staff less than half a meter in length, with a metal grip at the bottom. At the very end of the grip was a Magic Crystal base. When a Mana-Wielder held it and opened the base, the mana in the Magic Crystal would be conducted through the test subject's hands into the glass.

Embedded inside the glass were twelve small white glass spheres, each of them engraved with an Illumination Spell magic pattern. If the mana within the base could enter the glass without any obstruction, all twelve small spheres would glow.

According to Landen's conjecture, starting at the age of twelve, mana already circulated inside the bodies of twenty percent of children. It was precisely because of this that even if these children had not awakened their bloodlines, they could still see the lines of mana light flowing across magic patterns.

But the children had no way to actively release mana, or even sense its existence, so a mana source was needed to test the children's "mana conductivity."
