Feature Value
Name Beastmen (半兽人)
Species/Race People with animal traits associated with Magic Beast God bloodlines and blessings 25 557
Affiliation Numerous tribes, including tribes under the Beastmen Royal Court and Beastmen living in Landen Gallop’s territory 176 259 611 800

Physiology and Divine Power

  • Beastmen range from people with animal ears or hooves to those who look almost entirely like beasts. Greater resemblance to a worshipped Beast God generally signifies a stronger awakened bloodline 25 169.
  • Beast-shaped organs give even those without a bloodline breakthrough physical or sensory advantages over Human Race Mana-Less. A slave merchant estimates that roughly twenty percent achieve a breakthrough by Human Race Mana-Wielder standards 231.
  • The most powerful are Beast God’s Favored, who resemble smaller versions of their gods. They can swell into a fully beastlike form in battle; Favored bearing a god’s descent can contend with exceptionally powerful opponents 25 169 445.
  • Beastmen generally do not use magic directly unless they are specialized priests. Their tribes have priests who gather faith and Favored who bear divine descents 484 557.
  • The Panda-kin are an exception to the usual divine-centered paths: they have Legends and inheritances as martial monks and gardeners 557.

Tribes and Livelihood

  • Beastmen live in Hindukush Valley west of Iowa Pass, in Frost Wolf Forest, and among mixed communities on the Gallop Plains. Some Barbarian tribes include Beastmen members 125 187 259.
  • According to Shilaina, western tribes ordinarily follow one Magic Beast God and tend to share similar appearances. Herbivore groups often settle under the protection of Carnivore tribes. She contrasts this with the mixed beliefs of Imola’s eastern tribe 234.
  • Tribes do not act as a single political bloc. Landen expects rival tribes to preserve their own strength rather than immediately join a Ratman attack, and later trades with individual tribes while seeking to divide them from the Royal Court 518 532.
  • Beastmen grow Magic Plants, make potions, tend Magic Beasts, and craft tools and weapons from Magic Beast bones. Some tribes also keep Human Race slaves and subordinate labor settlements 214 265 664 800.

History

Frost Wolf Forest

Border nobles and forest tribes maintained an informal arrangement for centuries: nobles hunted in the forest during spring and summer, withdrew before autumn, and left supplies behind. The arrangement deteriorated after nobles kidnapped Beastmen who had begun trading Magic Plants and potions 214.

Imola Longhorn gathered nearly four hundred followers through her herbs and healing. When Human Race forces approached, her tribe split between leaving and staying. Blake Tiger’s fighters trapped White-Owl and Bristle-Wolf knights in a cave, but Landen’s rescue force routed the Beastmen defending it 220 222 223 224. More than 130 captured Herbivore Beastmen were subsequently offered for sale; Landen bought them and arranged food and registration for the newcomers 231 234 235.

Hindukush and the Gallop Plains

The Beastmen Royal Court mobilized subordinate tribes against the Gallop Plains, but its demands met resistance from local Favored and priests. Royal Court representative Olmert Chixi accused Hindukush leaders of failing to commit fully to the attack 411 611.

After the fighting at Iowa Pass, Landen reached a ceasefire agreement with the Forest Cat and Scorch Wolf tribes. He also proposed a tribe for Herbivore Beastmen in Night-Kirin City, led by Blaze and managed in part by Imola and her people. His stated aim was to give them a distinct community within the territory rather than forcibly merge them with its Human Race population 800 816.
