Inside the Train Station, a little leopard-spotted cat rubbed against the station master's palm as it meowed.
"Oh? You have a proposal like that?" the man asked with a laugh.
"Yes. You've already established a foothold in the Basin, which violates the agreement between the Human Race and the Beast Gods. But the rats' arrival violates it too. If you're willing, Fang and I are prepared to make a new pact with you!"
"It's a simple offer. Whether or not the Rat God comes, both our sides will recognize your interests in the Basin. But if the Rat God comes in person, please help us as a Retainer of the Magic Web, and share in the Rat God's power."
The man looked at the meowing kitten before him and nodded. "All right. I'll make the arrangements."
Relationships between Beast Gods were always hard to predict. The Rat God, for instance, wanted to use its knowledge of the Magic Web to devour vast numbers of Beastmen and members of the Human Race. Other Beast Gods, meanwhile, would privately make deals with certain Ancient Gods and plot against the Rat God.
A few words exchanged in a dream between a man and a cat a month ago had laid the groundwork for the sudden alliance between the Human Gods and the Beast Gods in the divine war. To secure this alliance, Landen had spent nearly half a month arranging the Magic Arrays on the
