Augustus's platoon was changing into the new CMC-250/EX Power Armor. This was not an interim model between the CMC-200 and CMC-300, but a prototype armor capable of mounting a jetpack on its back.
After Augustus had organized the plan for "Operation Landing" into a report and submitted it to the Northern Theater Command responsible for directing the operation, the approval documents were quickly sent down to Fort Howe's command center.
The document designated Augustus's platoon to be temporarily restructured into a special operations tactical unit capable of carrying out special combat missions. During the operation, they would receive additional support personnel and reinforcements.
The plan allowed twelve days for preparation, so Augustus had plenty of time to squeeze some extra benefits out for his unit.
The CMC-250/EX Power Armor development team had originally intended to create a suit of Power Armor capable of flight, but clearly, every attempt in that direction had failed. Even though the jetpack could send both the armor and its wearer into the air, the odds of failure were just as high as the odds of success.
After the last brave test pilot fell to his death, progress on the project gradually stalled. Later, Procyon Company redirected the research funding toward Firebat armor.
The stripped-down CMC-250/EX Power Armor used a lower-powered, more easily controlled jetpack. It could no longer send Marines soaring into the sky, but it could improve their running speed, jumping ability, and instantaneous bursts of power.
The project's lead developer was none other than the Third Platoon's armor technician standing before Augustus, Hiram Fick. Fick was only four feet tall, and when he stood before Marines in Power Armor, the soldiers had to lower their heads very far to speak with him.
