The Zerg's ground combat units were basically all equipped with polymer blades. Even the cheapest cannon fodder had at least two blade-like limbs.

These bladed limbs could cut through iron like mud. Even Epoch Clan soldiers' protective suits could hardly withstand such attacks. But the most important function of the metal fortresses was defense; even their weakest points were over two meters thick.

Combined with their incredibly hard material, although polymer blades could still damage them, breaking through their defenses would take a long time.

From the moment the metal fortresses sealed all external openings and the Epoch Clan soldiers ceased firing, to when the insect swarm broke through the remaining Epoch Clan defensive lines and reached the metal fortresses—

—to the explosion of X-576, only a few minutes had passed. A few minutes was nowhere near enough for polymer blades to inflict serious damage on the metal fortresses.

However, a small number of Wolf Strikers were mixed into the insect swarm. When the metal fortresses faced their Negative Energy Blades, their once-hard walls were no different from tofu, easily breached by the Wolf Strikers.

But limited by the Wolf Strikers' size and the lack of time, not many Zerg units entered through those breaches. And the moment they rushed in, they were wiped out by the Epoch Clan soldiers' fierce firepower.

Although those Zerg units that infiltrated the metal fortresses did not cause the Epoch Clan much trouble, the holes blasted through the fortresses, combined with the explosion of X-576, gave the Epoch Clan a massive headache.

Even though the Epoch Clan soldiers had been prepared and sealed off the damaged rooms fairly promptly during the explosion, some Epoch Clan soldiers were still exposed to radiation contamination.
