About twenty light-years from the Frontline Base lay three star systems. At the point between them, a massive Star Gate spanned the void.

Constructing a Star Gate required enormous manpower and resources. This region of space was one of the most remote corners of the Star Sea Alliance, surrounded only by Outer-Ring Civilizations.

And they were all emerging civilizations that had only recently joined the Star Sea Alliance. In other words, they were of the lowest tier. By the rules of the past several hundred thousand years, this place was nowhere near qualified to have a Star Gate.

But this Star Gate had not been built to develop the surrounding civilizations or strengthen trade and exchange. Its purpose was highly specific: to make it easier to send reinforcements to the anti-Zerg front.

When this Star Gate was first being constructed, it drew plenty of skepticism, because a few decades ago, the Zerg were nowhere near as famous as they were now.

Everyone knew the Zerg were somewhat formidable, but without a record to back them up, people believed that every civilization had already dispatched fleets. By the time the Star Gate was completed, those fleets would have covered most of the distance already—more than enough to wipe out the Zerg. After all, Star Gates had only appeared recently and were still something new. At present, only the Epoch Clan could construct Star Gates, and many races hoped to have one or several Star Gates right on their doorsteps.
