The Epoch Clan warships' side hangars opened, and large numbers of Unmanned Fighters flew out. They came in two types. The larger ones moved to the front of the fleet, spread their wings, and formed a crystal-wall defensive system.
The smaller ones had a sharp, aggressive look thanks to their delta-wing structure. These Delta-Wing Drones formed orderly formations, splitting into groups of ten as they broke apart and charged toward the Star Gates behind the Zerg lines.
They were incredibly fast and agile, and their special shape gave them a very small profile. Though that design made them rather fragile, actually landing a hit on them was still extremely difficult.
The many Delta-Wing Drone formations darted and danced through the artillery fire like dense swarms of bees or brilliant butterflies. A few unlucky ones caught shells head-on, but most of the drones continued closing in on the Zerg defenses without incident.
They were a fine choice against ordinary mechanical civilizations, but they were somewhat lacking against the Zerg. In their early days, the Zerg had lacked long-range firepower and had needed to find every possible way to deliver their units into enemy formations, relying on close combat to seize victory.
By now, there were not no one who dared to charge Zerg forces head-on, but they were truly few and far between.
Some Ancient Class units on standby opened their Storage Sacs, and equally small Larval Forms flew out to meet the Epoch Clan's Delta-Wing Drone formations.
As the small units on both sides rapidly closed in, an aerial dogfight, needle against awl, was about to erupt. Yet after both sides entered each other's firing range, the Epoch Clan drone formations unexpectedly did not attack first.
