Hearing this, Conan suddenly remembered the dry batteries he and Hattori Heiji had found near the Tenshukaku earlier. With a guilty little gasp, he realized they had forgotten to tell the police about them.

He had originally wanted to remedy that, but after hesitating for a moment, he worried that if he spoke up, Hattori Heiji would immediately get kicked again. After all, Hattori Heiji was still sitting on the ground, and his father was right beside him. From that position, his foot was perfectly placed.

"..." Conan fell silent for a moment and decided to wait until the father and son put a little distance between themselves before quietly handing the batteries to the more easygoing Inspector Otaki.

Hattori Heizo, however, had not given it much thought. He did not even seem to have listened closely to Inspector Otaki. Once Otaki finished speaking, Heizo merely glanced at him and gave an unreadable grunt.

Then he rose to his feet and waved a hand decisively. "Since it was suicide, two or three people are enough to stay behind. What are all of you crowding around here for? The police are not so idle that we can waste this much manpower investigating such a minor case—Toyama, we're leaving."

The two high-ranking police officials rose from beside the corpse and left, one after the other.

Among the nearby onlookers, someone gave a cold laugh at his words and cursed bitterly in their heart: Stupid police.

Hattori Heizo led a large group of subordinates away.

Only two or three police officers really remained behind to handle the aftermath.

Hattori Heiji seemed not to have recovered yet. He sat on the ground with his eyes lowered, silently thinking about something.

After watching him for a moment, Jiang Xia walked over and poked him.
