Sato Miwako: "..."
Here we go again.
She did not even need to turn around. Just from that earthquake-like thud, she knew her mother had brought over another pile of matchmaking profiles.
"What's so interesting about that stack of photos?" Sato Miwako had a headache just looking at them, and even the tangerine in her hand no longer tasted sweet. "I can barely keep up with all the autopsy photos I have to look at every day. Where would I find the time to think about this?"
Sato's Mother took a deep breath, then let out a wail and began fake-crying. "What sins have I committed?! The older my child gets, the less she listens to me. It's all because I spoiled you too much when you were little. When I'm gone someday and you're all alone, how am I supposed to answer to your father, who died in the line of duty? Boo hoo hoo..."
Sato Miwako: "..."
With a pounding headache, she randomly pulled out one of the booklets. "Fine, this one."
It was just a meal to go through the motions. Afterward, she could say she was not interested. Simple enough.
Sato's Mother stopped fake-crying and picked up the booklet from the floor. Opening it, her eyes lit up. "Oh my, as expected of my daughter—your taste is just like mine. Out of this whole bunch, this is the one I like best too!"
Sato Miwako: "...Huh?"
Which one?
She curiously stared at the booklet, about to ask, but her mother had already happily skipped out with it in her arms and begun calling the other party's parents to arrange the matchmaking date.
Officer Sato: "..."
Forget it. Whoever was on the other side, the process would be the same. Why bother asking?
The next day.
