Conan shivered from the cold and clutched his collar. "Is this window letting in a draft?"
Puzzled, he tugged at the window frame. The window clicked open, and Conan leaned out to take a look. He suddenly noticed something extremely thin fluttering in the wind diagonally below.
"What's that?" He turned and ran downstairs, pushed open the door, then found a long, thin kite string hanging from the railing where he had just spotted it.
When he took it down for a closer look, there was a broken rubber band at one end.
"!" As he looked at the strange long string, clues flashed through his mind. Conan had a sudden realization and finally understood how that stiff corpse had come running over to knock on the door on its own.
