Inspector Megure woke to a rhythmic knocking sound.
Feeling the sharp pain in his forehead, he struggled to open his eyes. Before his vision could focus, he saw a burly man scrambling toward him, tears of excitement streaming down his face, like an elementary school student who had suddenly spotted his parents after being bullied.
"?" Inspector Megure's mind instantly filled with question marks. Who was this? What did he want from him? And what was with that expression?
A moment later, as his memories returned, he abruptly sat up.
Then he saw the High School Detective holding a Collapsible Baton behind Nyu Iwao. Inspector Megure's eye twitched, and he immediately understood everything.
—He really had been muddled. Other than Brother Jiang Xia, who else could make a criminal look at him as though he had seen family?
"Alright, alright, Brother Jiang Xia." Inspector Megure gave his usual admonition, though this time his movements were especially halfhearted. It was obvious that he actually thought Jiang Xia had done a good job.

After putting on an act for a while, Inspector Megure eventually began to persuade him in earnest, lest news of the Great Detective beating people made the headlines the next day.
