Mouri Ran shook her head. "It clearly starts with 'the incompetent detective Mouri Kogoro.' How could it have been sent to the wrong person? Even if someone shares his name, that person couldn't possibly happen to be a detective—and happen to be so... cough, so prone to making blunders."
Mouri Kogoro still felt something was off. "But how would I know any foreigners? He must have confused me with someone else—call Agasa and ask. I remember that among those academic societies he attends, there are always a few strange foreign guys popping up every so often."
"All right." Ran really hadn't seen any foreigners at the Detective Agency lately, so she took out her phone and called Professor Agasa.
After she explained the situation, silence fell on the other end of the line.
After a while, Professor Agasa's voice finally came through the receiver. "Sorry, Ran, but I've never heard the name Vermouth."
"I see." Ran was a little disappointed. She murmured in confusion, "Then who could have sent it?"
A foreigner, a foreigner... huh?
Suddenly, the image of a blond, blue-eyed foreign woman wearing glasses surfaced in Ran's mind.

"Should I ask Jiang Xia too?" Ran mused to herself. "He must have met plenty of clients, and he's a detective just like Dad. Maybe some foreigner got confused and accidentally sent an invitation letter meant for Jiang Xia to my dad instead?"
Just as she was thinking that, Professor Agasa's voice sounded from the other end again.
The professor asked tentatively, "Is your father planning to attend this Halloween Party?"
"Of course I am!" Mouri Kogoro had been listening beside
