The staff member at the registration desk waited for ages without anyone coming over, so he had no choice but to call out in this direction.
Mouri Kogoro and Jiang Xia stopped chatting and walked up, handing their invitation letters to the staff member with a kitchen knife splitting the top of his head.
"Mouri Kogoro... and Jiang Xia?" The staff member's eyes lit up, and he looked up at the two guests. The kitchen knife embedded in his skull swayed with a powerful sense of presence.
A moment later, realizing this was unprofessional of him, he hurriedly cleared his throat as if nothing had happened and pushed out a registry book. "I didn't expect a great detective to actually attend this year's event—come, please sign here."
Mouri Kogoro finished writing with a few quick strokes. Remembering the contents of the invitation letter, he asked quietly, "Tonight, is there really going to be a murder case on this ship?"
The staff member looked blank. "A murder case?"
Mouri Kogoro studied him for a moment. Seeing that he did not seem to be pretending, he reached into his inner pocket and felt around, taking out the letter that had been mailed together with the invitation letter.
"Look." He pulled out the letter paper and showed it to the staff member. "Although it's written in a roundabout way, doesn't it mean there's going to be a murder case on the ship tonight?"
"This..." The staff member took the letter in confusion and curiosity, unfolded it, looked it over, then shook his head.
"The invitation letter you just showed us was indeed issued by us to our guests. But this sheet of paper and the envelope outside it were not from us."
