Under Mouri Ran's probing gaze, Jodie continued, "As for why I became an english teacher at Teitan High School..."
Mouri Ran: "..." Was it because you had your eye on Jiang Xia?
Jodie: "Because it had always been my dream! Think about it—English is my native language. Just by using a skill as simple as my mother tongue, I could do a job well. Isn't that the ideal kind of wonderful work?"
Mouri Ran: "..." Really?
Suzuki Sonoko, on the other hand, felt this deeply. "That's right! Working with a skill you're already good at is truly such a happy thing!"—Just like how she had never imagined she could plan a game so smoothly, much less keep getting better at it.
Jodie changed the subject. "But James's and my vacation is about to end. Once I recover from these injuries, I'll have to return to the United States and start working immediately."
That was, of course, a lie. They would actually remain in Tokyo—after things had developed this far, slinking back to the United States at such a critical moment would have been far too embarrassing.
And after evaluating the situation, their superiors had concluded that Tokyo's circumstances were complicated. It was best for people like them, who were already familiar with the situation, to continue the investigation.
Still, staying was one thing. After analyzing matters with James, they both felt that since Vermouth had already abandoned her identity as Teitan High School's school doctor, Jodie no longer needed to go undercover as a teacher at the high school.
That made it necessary to distance herself from this group of high school students—though there was no evidence whatsoever, considering the frequency of cases around these kids, it was hard not to suspect that they were caught in Uzo's vast
