As Jiang Xia left the school,
several streets away, someone sitting on a stone bollard in a corner suddenly raised his head.
Matsuda Jinpei adjusted his sunglasses and puzzledly looked at the clock on a distant building.
When Jiang Xia had passed by here on his way to the exam this morning, he had dropped him off and told him to wait nearby and not wander around.
So Matsuda Jinpei, utterly confused, had remained alone as a ghost in this rundown, sparsely populated street block. He then tried hard to ponder his Spirit Medium Master's words: Wait nearby? Wait for what?
He looked toward Teitan High School in the distance and remembered that Jiang Xia was taking an exam today. He gave a slight nod. Was he supposed to wait for his Spirit Medium Master to finish the exam?
But wasn't this a little too far from the exam site?
And now...
Matsuda Jinpei recalled Jiang Xia's exam schedule and sank into thought. It should still be exam time, right? But why could he sense that the Spirit Medium's location was moving—and getting farther and farther away from here?
After hesitating for a moment, he wanted to follow and take a look. But the instant he reached the street corner, Matsuda Jinpei abruptly stopped.
...He couldn't move.
It was not that he lacked stamina. His legs simply would not move, and he did not want to keep walking either.
After standing there blankly for a moment, the ghost scratched his curly hair and suddenly understood: it was because of Jiang Xia's words, "Don't wander around"!
He had thought his Spirit Medium Master was making one of those jokes he liked to talk about. Who knew it had actually been a seriously issued command??
