"Let's help him move things first," he whispered to his companion. "There are too many people backstage. The moment we're out of his sight, we'll come right back."
His companion frowned. "But there aren't any other boxes around. If we leave this one here by itself, someone might take it because it's in the way—what if some overly curious person notices the weight is off and pries it open to take a look..."
Then the two of them would be in trouble.
"Let's do this." The Informant was forced to put his brain to work. "We'll pretend to agree and follow him to the stage. Once we get past that corner, I'll quietly double back—if he asks, just say I suddenly got a stomachache and went to the bathroom."
