Background / History

Itachi saves Hui Youling after she is knocked into a river while protecting Naruto. The Third Hokage later identifies him as her rescuer 4 5.

Hui waits outside the Uchiha compound for three consecutive days to meet him. Though Itachi initially avoids her because he expects an unwanted entanglement, her persistence, apparent familiarity with him, and lack of malice persuade him to speak with her. He accepts her offer of Three-Color Dango and permits her to visit him in the future 6.

By this time, Itachi is already a genin despite his young age and is frequently occupied. Hui seeks him out for guidance with chakra control and the Three Body Technique; he assesses her low chakra reserves, demonstrates chakra flow so she can sense it, and tells her to strengthen her body and train patiently 9 10.

After Hui successfully performs the Substitution Technique, Itachi assigns her and Sasuke to train together and says that he will monitor their progress. Hui continues to train with Sasuke after Itachi becomes unavailable, later asking Sasuke to thank Itachi for his months of guidance before she leaves Konoha with Orochimaru 11.

When Hui returns to Konoha with a murderous aura from her experiences away from the village, Itachi confronts her gently. He urges her not to dwell on killing and tells her that she should not have to force herself to be so mature or carry such burdens alone 22.

Personality

Itachi is reserved, observant, and difficult to deceive. He quickly notices that Hui is not what she appears to be, including recognizing that she is a girl and sensing that she is unusually mature for her age. Although wary of her knowledge of him, he does not pursue the truth once he determines she bears no malice 6.

He is consistently gentle beneath an outwardly indifferent manner. He treats Hui's persistence with patience, provides concise practical instruction, and worries about the psychological burden created by her killing.
