The elevator descended all the way to the basement and stopped on level B1. The moment they stepped out, a chill seemed to seep through the air, along with the faint smell of formaldehyde. The fluorescent lights overhead cast a cold, lifeless glow, and the whole place radiated a stifling, oppressive unease.

At the end of the corridor, a large door blocked their view. A sign above it bore three ordinary characters: Morgue. A dozen or so people were gathered outside. Their presence did something to dispel the chilling silence.

The female doctor led Lu Li and the nurse to the door. Of the people waiting there, eight were security guards and the rest were nurses. Only two others warranted attention.

One was a middle-aged doctor in a white coat. He adjusted the glasses on his mask, nodded to the female doctor, then focused on the computer in front of him, carefully studying the data on the screen.

The other was a man in a well-tailored suit. The mask on his face wore a constant smile, but there was no second mask on the back of his head. In this world, ordinary people could not see a second mask. But players could see that everyone except children had one. So only players wore a single mask, to fit in with ordinary standards of appearance.

"The test subjects for this site are all here. Get ready to begin the test!" the female doctor ordered the nurses.

"Yes." The nurses immediately brought out several specially made vests and had Lu Li, the nurse, and the suited man put them on. They attached some of the sensor patches inside the vests to their necks, over their hearts, and at other points.
