Na'er's astonishing appetite conquered every customer in the restaurant. The moment the food was served, the little girl picked up her spoon and buried her head in her meal, eating heartily.
Her small frame contained an incredible amount of energy; a bowl of seafood fried rice hit the bottom in moments. She tilted her head up to look at the owner and called out in a milky voice, "Owner, another bowl, please!"
No one expected Na'er to finish one bowl after another in quick succession. The owner in the kitchen was working up a sweat, stir-frying and dishing out rice without a moment's rest, as if he had entered into a silent war with the little girl.
The customers present were stunned by Na'er's extraordinary appetite. Lin Chen sat to the side, feeling both helpless and amused, and could only keep apologizing to the owner.
The owner didn't mind, joking, "To be able to eat is a blessing. It's been a long time since I've met such a well-matched opponent."
As time passed, rows of empty bowls piled up on the table. Na'er patted her little belly, looking completely satisfied, and after paying the bill, she walked out of the restaurant.
The afternoon sun gradually softened, no longer as scorching or blinding as it had been at high noon.
Na'er squatted by the shallows, carefully picking up seashells. White, pink, and all sorts of exquisite shells of various colors were tucked away into her pockets with great care.
Only when her pockets were stuffed full did she run over to Lin Chen, the shells inside clinking together to create a crisp, pleasant sound with every movement.
She dumped all the shells onto the lounge chair and looked at Lin Chen with her large, purple eyes, filled with anticipation: "Brother Lin Chen, these shells are so pretty! I want to make a bracelet!"
After fiddling with them for a long time and failing to assemble anything from the scattered shells, Na'er, an Oscar-worthy actress, let her head droop and pouted her little mouth in grievance: "I can't make it."
How could Lin Chen not understand what Na'er was thinking? He chuckled, shook his head, and said gently, "It's alright, leave it to me. I guarantee I'll make you the most beautiful seashell bracelet."
With that, he took a bottle of carefully crafted Guojiao from his soul storage ring, pulled out a glass, added a few ice cubes, and filled it to the brim.
As the saying goes, room temperature is like horse urine, but chilled is Guojiao.
He gently patted the top of Na'er's head: "You rest here for a while. I'm going to a nearby accessory shop to buy the tools needed for the bracelet. I'll be back soon, so don't wander off, okay?"
Na'er nodded obediently: "I know, Brother Lin Chen." Holding the drink Lin Chen had prepared, she looked quietly out at the surging sea.
Lin Chen turned and walked toward the nearby shops with a light step.
But what Lin Chen didn't know was that shortly after he left, a flash of light crossed Na'er's amethyst-like eyes. That gaze, previously full of innocence, now held a complexity that did not belong to a child of her age.
Before Lin Chen returned, however, she had already reverted to her usual self.
Not long after, Lin Chen returned quickly, carrying a roll of soft, silver-colored thread and several delicate piercing needles.
He sat down on the lounge chair, laid out the tools, and carefully sorted through the shells Na'er had collected, picking out the ones that were uniform in size and aesthetically pleasing.
Na'er set down her finished drink and leaned in close to him, her round eyes fixed unblinkingly on Lin Chen's movements.
Lin Chen precisely drilled a hole of the perfect size into each shell. Once they were all drilled, he carefully threaded them onto the silver cord one by one, occasionally adding small white pearls in the gaps—a little something he had picked up on his way back.
The sea breeze brushed gently by, causing their hair to flutter slightly. Before long, a unique bracelet adorned with various seashells was complete.
"Come, Na'er, let me put it on for you." Lin Chen gently fastened the bracelet onto Na'er's fair, slender wrist; the size was just right.
Na'er joyfully raised her little hand, examining it repeatedly against the sunlight. The shells and pearls refracted a beautiful luster. She beamed, her eyes curving into crescents, and threw herself into Lin Chen's arms, cheering: "It's so beautiful! Thank you, Brother Lin Chen!"
The setting sun slowly sank toward the horizon, and the glow across the sky dyed the entire beach a warm golden-red. The fine golden sand shimmered with a soft luster under the afterglow.
Lin Chen held Na'er's hand, walking slowly along the edge of the beach. Two figures of different heights were stretched long by the sunset, cast upon the sand.
After walking for a while, Lin Chen noticed that Na'er's complexion looked a bit off and asked with concern: "Na'er, what's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"
Na'er looked up at the sound, a sweet and gentle smile on her face, and shook her head lightly: "It's nothing, Brother Lin Chen. I'm just a little tired. Today was really, really fun."
As night fell, the pitch-black sky was hung with stars like brilliant gemstones, vying for radiance with the silver moon.
Lin Chen and Na'er sat on the beach, looking up to admire the starry sky.
The tranquil night enveloped the entire beach, and the waves lapped slowly against the shore, emitting a long, gentle sound.
After a long while, Na'er leaned toward Lin Chen, resting her head on his shoulder. She said softly, with a hint of imperceptible anxiety: "If one day, Na'er leaves, will Brother Lin Chen miss Na'er?"
Lin Chen's body stiffened slightly at these words. He turned his head and, by the light of the bright moon, looked earnestly at the little girl beside him. A flash of hard-to-detect complexity briefly surfaced in the depths of his eyes.
"Silly girl, no matter where Na'er goes, no matter how far apart we are, I will definitely do everything in my power to find you."
Na'er was slightly startled. She looked up at him, her purple eyes misting over slightly under the starlight.
Lin Chen lowered his head to look at Na'er, and the two gazed at each other.
Na'er suddenly curved her brows, breaking the silence. A mischievous yet sweet smile bloomed on her lips as she said brightly: "I tricked you! Brother Lin Chen is so silly; Na'er would never leave Brother Lin Chen."
The mist in her eyes had long since dissipated, leaving only lively mirth. She playfully shook her wrist, which was adorned with the seashell bracelet, her entire demeanor radiating a cute sense of triumph.
Lin Chen was stunned for a moment, then let out a helpless laugh and reached out to gently flick her little nose: "Alright, Na'er, you actually played a trick on me."
No sooner had he finished speaking than Na'er stood up, her silver hair tracing a light arc in the night air, and turned to run toward the Seaview Hotel.
As she ran, she looked back and stuck her tongue out at Lin Chen, her crisp laughter drifting back on the sea breeze: "Nyah nyah nyah, Brother Lin Chen is so slow, you can't catch me!"
The waves gently washed over her ankles, and fine golden sand flew up with her footsteps. Her small figure hopped and skipped under the starlight, lively and vibrant.
Lin Chen watched the small, skipping figure ahead and laughed helplessly, then lifted his feet and followed at a leisurely pace.
Before long, they returned to the Seaview Hotel together. After opening two adjacent rooms and wishing each other goodnight, they each went to their own rooms to rest.
Inside Na'er's room, the air fluctuated slightly. A ripple spread out, sealing off all movement within the room.
A man slowly emerged from the void. He was tall and well-built, standing about nine feet tall, with the most striking feature being his pair of golden vertical pupils.
The man knelt on one knee and said respectfully: "Di Tian pays respects to the Sovereign."
Na'er stood quietly by the window. The childlike innocence had completely faded, and her purple eyes were deep and cold. In its place was the supreme majesty belonging to the Silver Dragon King. A faint dragon's might swirled around her, and the air in the room seemed to freeze.
Na'er said with her back to Di Tian: "Give it some time."
