Just as two elite jonin were about to clash in the southern part of the Land of Fire, two old men sat kneeling across from each other on tatami mats in an inner room within the Uchiha Clan compound in Konoha. A board game lay between them.
One wore the Uchiha Clan's traditional black kimono, while the other wore the same style in a different color—his kimono was blue.
The speaker was the Uchiha elder, who looked teasingly at the acquaintance he had known for decades.
The two had once been rivals. Though they later became comrades, that did not make them one big happy family. They no longer communicated with their fists, certainly, but in every other respect, they still had not been on the same path these past few decades.
Qi had met this old man before. He was the oldest surviving member of the Uchiha Clan and served as its Great Elder.
"Hmph..."
The old man in the blue kimono looked up at those words, snorted coldly, and reached out to move a piece on the board, completing his turn.
"Haha, since you're being so generous, I'll gladly accept. Fire defeats Wind—captured."
The Great Elder immediately followed up with a beaming smile. With a snap, he took one of the other man's pieces.
"You old fool, take a closer look."
The old man in blue gave a sinister smile and swiftly responded as well.
"My move is a nature combination. Try blocking it now."
"Hm?"
The Great Elder's eyes widened.
"You're cheating again?"
"You Uchiha always liked doing things like this, which is why we kept you under our thumb."
