In the ninja world—no, in the countries of the Naruto world—most places truly lived up to their names.

Thus, the Land of Water was very aptly named. If nothing else, it certainly had plenty of water.

Unlike the countries on the mainland, the Land of Water had a very distinctive transportation system.

While the mainland nations relied primarily on roads for transport, the Land of Water favored waterways.

As an island nation, water transport between islands was unavoidable. Even within the islands themselves, rivers crisscrossed everywhere.

Especially on the Land of Water's main island, the largest island in the Naruto world. Its rivers were so densely distributed that they practically formed a natural waterway network.

Someone once joked that the Land of Water's main island was actually pieced together from a huge cluster of smaller islands. Though it was merely a joke, it showed just how developed its water transport system was. Countless great and long rivers, together with the coastal waters between the islands, divided the Land of Water into countless pieces when viewed from above.

This geographical environment also made the Land of Water's noble system vastly different from those of other nations. The local nobility here was exceptionally powerful, and the Feudal Lord of Water held far less obvious advantages than the daimyo of other countries. This was also where the seeds of civil war in the Land of Water had been planted. The local lords held too much power; when they joined forces, they could practically confront the Daimyo's Residence head-on.

Its flourishing water-based culture had made the Land of Water what it was, but it had also constrained it. Everyone here was a natural sailor, and with a little training, they could be turned into soldiers. The great rivers and coastal waters were also natural
