Before what appeared to be a bronze gate stood two people. Behind them stretched an azure corridor, illuminated by reliefs of some unusual material lining both walls. This bizarre scene, so utterly at odds with the present-day world of the Hokage, was unfolding somewhere unknown.
On either side of the corridor, where perhaps no living creature had set foot for thousands of years, countless reliefs still radiated an azure glow. Though they had waited here through innumerable ages, they remained as exquisite, grand, and spotless as the day they had been made. Their lively faces seemed almost alive, and the gem-like eyes that adorned them appeared to be watching the two living people amid the boundless silence. As time passed, an eerie air seemed to seep into the once gentle, tranquil curtain of azure light.
Leaving aside Qi, who was wholly focused, Tobi, waiting beside him, abruptly shuddered in this atmosphere.
Feeling the sudden chill, he instinctively turned around and looked back at the relief-covered walls lining both sides of the corridor. A trace of vigilance appeared in his eyes, along with wariness and a faint, barely perceptible... fear.
Well versed in ancient secrets, he had already harbored a degree of awe for this place, which was very likely connected to that legendary land. Otherwise, with his temperament, why would he be so cautious?
That awe came from the depths of his heart. It was the purest emotion of his life, even surpassing his hatred for the six great ninja clans—especially the Senju Clan and Uchiha clans.
For years, he had exhausted his mind and painstakingly laid his plans, all for the sake of that final eternity. But if that figure from legend truly existed, then even the eternity he sought would pale into insignificance.
