Background

Madara is Uchiha Shin's younger brother and Izuna's elder brother. As a child, he helped care for Izuna when Shin was absent, showing patience despite being only four years old himself 60.

Shin personally trained Madara in the Rasengan and selected him for additional instruction in the Fire Temple's Talent of the Immortal Clan. Madara initially doubted whether he could learn the unfamiliar technique, but accepted Shin's reassurance and training methods 64.

By age nine, Madara had reached elite chūnin level. His inability to last five moves against Shin left him discouraged and briefly unwilling to train 98.

Personality

Madara is intensely loyal to his family and clan. When Shin warns him that a friendship with Hashirama could lead to the Uchiha Clan's destruction, Madara resolves that blood relatives and clansmen must take priority over any friend 102.

He is perceptive and analytical in battle, recognizing the Rasengan's properties and later identifying the implications of Hashirama fleeing toward Senju territory 63 100. He can also be an effective actor: under Shin's direction, he convincingly portrays a conflicted Uchiha youth to gain Hashirama's trust 130.

After Aoi's death, Madara becomes driven by grief and vengeance. His desire to kill Hashirama is tempered only by his concern for Izuna and the wider Uchiha force 163 165.

Naka River Meetings

After meeting Hashirama at the Naka River, Madara correctly suspects that the boy belongs to the Senju Clan and immediately returns to report the encounter to Shin 100. He later agrees to pose as Hashirama's friend so Shin can use their meetings to lure Senju Butsuma into an ambush 122.

Madara maintains the deception through coded pebble messages, staged panic, and a performance of divided loyalties. His acting convinces Hashirama that he is trying to prevent bloodshed between their clans 130.

Allied Forces War

Following Aoi's death, Madara awakens the Mangekyō Sharingan and engages Hashirama alongside Izuna 162 165. The brothers abandon an opportunity to press their attack in order to protect threatened Uchiha ninja from Hashirama's Wood Release 166.

Madara adapts by using Susanoo's mobility to deploy Thousand-Armed Murder while moving, then restrains Izuna from targeting retreating ordinary ninja so they can focus on Hashirama 167.

Tailed Beast Hunt

Shin assigns Madara and Izuna to locate the Tailed Beasts, providing Madara with the Uchiha Gunbai and an intelligence scroll 174. During the mission, Madara defeats Kakuzu with Sharingan genjutsu and proceeds toward the Land of Wind 176.

In the Death Desert, he overwhelms Shukaku with Susanoo and Mangekyō Sharingan power. Madara captures the One-Tail and chooses to make it Izuna's summoned beast 178 179.

Marriage to Uzumaki Mito and the Senju Campaign

Madara agrees to marry Uzumaki Mito after Shin proposes the union as a means of disrupting the Senju-Uzumaki alliance 195. Mito later accompanies Madara and Izuna during their campaign against the Senju and Uzumaki clans 200.

When Hashirama attacks their force, Madara and Izuna defend the Uchiha ninja with Susanoo. After Mito's sealing chains buy them time to recover, Madara summons the Five-Tails and defeats the exhausted Hashirama 202 203. Black Zetsu prevents Madara from delivering the final blow and extracts Hashirama from the battlefield 204.
