"One room." Tang San took out his money pouch.

"One room?" The receptionist confirmed it, her gaze darting between him and Xiao Wu twice. "Alright, one deluxe double room. Three Gold Soul Coins per night."

Xiao Wu was already leaning over the counter.

Or rather than leaning over it, she had bent down toward the front desk, her upper body nearly blocking most of the countertop.

She pointed at the candy jar on the desk, her voice cheerful. "Third Brother, can I take one of these?"

Tang San smiled at the receptionist. "Is that alright?"

The receptionist froze for two seconds, then hurriedly nodded. "Take one. Go ahead."

Xiao Wu extended her muscular, knotted arm and carefully pinched a piece of candy from the jar. She unwrapped it and popped it into her mouth, her cheeks puffing out and her eyes narrowing into slits. She looked like a gorilla that had stolen a nut...

Tang San reached out and brushed aside the loose strands of hair the wind had blown across her forehead.

His arm looked especially thin beside her face.

He casually gave her cheek a gentle pinch. With candy in her mouth, Xiao Wu mumbled indistinctly:

"Third Brother, you pinched my face."

"So what if I did?"

"Then I'm pinching you back tonight."

"Fine."

Watching this, the receptionist's mouth twitched twice. She had no idea what expression she was supposed to make.

She had worked this front desk for three years and had seen all kinds of guests, but this pair... she genuinely did not know how to describe them.

"Your room is on the fifth floor, 503. Here's the key."

She placed the key on the counter, her tone already somewhat mechanical. "Enjoy your stay."

Tang San took the key and was just about to turn around.
