Background

Tang San arrived at Notting City Junior Soul Master Academy with his grandfather, Old Jack, to enroll as a work-study student. When a gate guard harassed them for a bribe, Mu Chen intervened. Tang San was immediately struck by Mu Chen's intimidating presence and became alarmed when Mu Chen identified his Innate Full Soul Power and Twin Martial Souls. 1

Mu Chen explained that Tang San's Blue Silver Grass could be a regressed, evolvable martial soul, and that his second martial soul was likely the source of his Innate Full Soul Power. Intrigued by Mu Chen's knowledge, Tang San voluntarily knelt and asked to become his disciple. 1 Mu Chen accepted him, registered him at the academy, supplied bedding and necessities, and gave him a Gold Soul Coin for meals. 2

During their first Soul Hunting Forest expedition, Mu Chen identified Tang San's second martial soul as the Clear Sky Hammer and linked it to the reclusive Clear Sky Sect. He advised Tang San to develop Blue Silver Grass as a support-type martial soul while reserving the Clear Sky Hammer for primary offense. 3 Tang San accepted this plan without hesitation.

After a year of instruction, Tang Hao personally entrusted Tang San to Mu Chen's care. Tang Hao confirmed that he was the Clear Sky Douluo and expressed confidence in Mu Chen's ability to guide a disciple with Twin Martial Souls. 7

Tang San later accompanied Mu Chen, Xiao Wu, and Zhu Zhuqing to Shrek Academy. Though his cultivation lagged behind Xiao Wu and Zhu Zhuqing for a time, he resolved to improve and eventually reached level 30. 10 15

Personality

Tang San is cautious and secretive, particularly concerning his Twin Martial Souls and prior cultivation method. Mu Chen's ability to infer these secrets initially leaves him frightened and unsettled. 1

He is intensely curious about soul beasts, spirit rings, factions, martial souls, and domains, frequently questioning Mu Chen for further knowledge. 3 19 He also places great importance on the teacher-disciple bond, repeatedly kowtowing to Mu Chen and describing a teacher as a father for life. 1 2

Tang San is respectful and highly receptive to instruction. He repeatedly states that he will follow Mu Chen's guidance, and he responds strongly to praise and encouragement. 3 4 8 However, he is self-critical when he feels his cultivation has fallen behind his fellow disciples. 10

• Blue Silver Grass — Tang San's first martial soul. Mu Chen believes it may be a regressed form of an evolved Blue Silver King or Blue Silver Emperor bloodline and therefore capable of future evolution. 1 3
