Background / History

Gu Yuena’s Emissary

Gu Yuena dispatches Di Tian after sensing Su Zhen’s awakened martial soul and recognizing its connection to the soul beast race’s future. Di Tian urges her to bring the child into the Star Dou Forest for protection, but she refuses: Su Zhen is human, his martial soul would drive other soul beasts into a frenzy, and an existence above has already noticed him 12.

Di Tian first approaches Su Zhen during his journey to Martial Soul City and gives him a black dragon scale to conceal his aura. Confronted by Qian Daoliu, he identifies himself, promises never to harm Su Zhen, and directs future inquiries to the Lake of Life. He also warns that the child has little time to grow stronger 7.

Early Soul Ring Hunts

When Su Zhen releases his martial soul in the Star Dou Forest, the resulting aura attracts a beast tide. Di Tian disperses it with a dragon roar and acknowledges his oversight in telling Su Zhen how to summon him. He instructs the boy to inject soul power into the scale instead 11.

Di Tian initially supplies an eight-hundred-year Thunderlight Electric Tiger, then replaces it with a newly thousand-year Thunderstorm Winged Lion King when Su Zhen’s intuition rejects the first choice. After the successful absorption, he gives Su Zhen his name and warns that even his scales cannot completely prevent the martial soul’s aura from leaking 11 12.

His guidance also supports later hunts outside the forest. He provides information about the Thunder Spirit sought for Su Zhen’s fourth ring and the exceptionally compatible Thunder Prison Hell Vine, although he doubts the latter can be found 14 20.

The Secret Agreement with Qian Daoliu

Di Tian secretly tells Qian Daoliu about Gu Yuena’s dream of a future in which Tang San destroys Martial Soul Hall, kills Bibi Dong, and cripples Qian Renxue after she becomes the next Angel God. Su Zhen does not appear in that dream, making him the variable capable of changing its outcome 34.

Rather than sheltering Su Zhen, Di Tian insists that Qian Daoliu reveal his suspicions about the deity behind the boy’s tragedies. He argues that extreme emotional stimulation is necessary to truly awaken the martial soul, even if the revelation causes Su Zhen to break down. Qian Daoliu reluctantly accepts the plan 34.

When Su Zhen subsequently reaches the Lake of Life, Di Tian intervenes against the Titan Giant Ape and Sky Azure Bull Python, who threaten his companions. He sends the two beasts away and brings the unconscious Su Zhen before Gu Yuena 34.

Cultivation in the Star Dou Forest

At Gu Yuena’s command, Di Tian brings the Three-Eyed Golden Lion to Su Zhen for sacrifice. He complies despite regarding the auspicious beast as his own daughter. Its sacrifice completes Su Zhen’s Thunder Prison Qilin and leaves him as the continent’s sole auspicious beast 36 37.

Di Tian and the other fierce beasts then undertake Su Zhen’s cultivation. For his seventh ring, Di Tian captures a 65,000-year Dark Demon Evil God Tiger and intercepts its escaping inner core. Alongside Xiong Jun and Bi Ji, he remains beside Su Zhen throughout the two-month ring absorption, then gives him the core to further strengthen the ring 36 37.

After the core’s absorption causes Su Zhen to vanish, Di Tian joins the other beasts in searching the forest with spiritual power. He and Gu Yuena recognize the aura of the ancient figure whose inheritance has summoned him 37.

Support for the Thunder God Trials

Di Tian detects Su Zhen immediately upon his return from the Thunder God Temple and escorts him to Gu Yuena. For the first divine trial, he mobilizes the forest’s soul beasts over ten thousand years old to gather body-tempering and healing herbs; younger beasts lack the intelligence to distinguish the required plants 38.

After the five-year trial, Di Tian advises Su Zhen that recovering lost Thunder God relics could nourish the god’s remnant consciousness and improve the trial rewards. He also orders the Sky Azure Bull Python to sacrifice itself for Su Zhen’s eighth ring, treating the lake guardian as replaceable 39.

The cooperation extends to the Worship Hall: its members’ soul ring hunts are handled by Di Tian and his kin, while the Pope Hall receives no such privilege. Su Zhen also arranges through them for a Titan Giant Ape to provide Qian Renxue’s eighth ring 41.

Appearance

  • Human form: Usually appears as a man in a black robe 7 11 34.
  • True form: A dragon, identified by the title Golden-Eyed Black Dragon King; he reverts to his massive beast form while searching for the missing Su Zhen 12 37.

Personality

Di Tian places the soul beast race’s survival above individual welfare. He initially regrets that its prospective savior is human rather than a soul beast, but later expresses firm confidence that Su Zhen can lead the clan to prosperity. That conviction drives both his sustained protection of Su Zhen and his willingness to engineer the boy’s emotional crisis 12 34 37.

His loyalty to Gu Yuena overrides personal grief and curiosity. He kneels when she challenges his advice, abandons his objection to bringing the Three-Eyed Golden Lion, and withdraws from Su Zhen’s audience despite wanting to learn about the Thunder God trials 12 36 38.

His treatment of other soul beasts is sharply unequal. The Three-Eyed Golden Lion’s death visibly saddens him, whereas he calls the Sky Azure Bull Python a replaceable guard dog and forces it to accept sacrifice. With Su Zhen, he can be reassuring and modest, crediting the youth’s iron will rather than taking credit for his success 37 39.
