Talking to a Demon (Part One)

Less than half a day after the attack on Fran, Eleanor could no longer withstand the pressure.

The Command Council kept pressing Eleanor to hand David over and send the Spirit Realm Mage to them at once, afraid that any delay might cause trouble.

The Command Council had its reasons for the urgency. The restraints on David were only basic models. Devices capable of completely restraining a Third Order Mage were nearly as large as a house.

They needed to take David back quickly and confine him within those larger devices.

That was why Eleanor had no choice but to make Fran start her inventory immediately.

In truth, Fran did not care whether the documents were leaked. She had made preparations from the start, and the Wall District had its own unusual environment.

With those advantages, even if the other Territory Mage Working Groups copied everything she did, they would only cause minor obstacles to her plans.

What she really wanted, of course, was the aura of the Abyss on the Spirit Realm Mage.

She would have liked to study a living Spirit Realm Mage, too. She possessed the rank herself and had been meaning to examine the profession properly.

But she knew the Command Council had invested far too much effort in capturing David. Even if she committed every resource she had, she might not be able to keep him.

So Fran gave up on that idea and looked instead for whatever on David carried the aura of the Abyss.

"I suspect some special documents have been hidden among the devices on that Spirit Realm Mage. I need to inspect them carefully."

When Fran was told she could not approach the restrained Spirit Realm Mage, she offered that reason.
